Just an update it is now sounding quieter than when I first picked it up. The kind of noise it makes driving around town and on B roads I am very happy with, subjectively speaking it's not too loud or too quiet.

So much for agreements. Just heard about this, Tullet were the people who (used to) do our manifolds where we had an agreement between us, seems as though they have gone back on that agreement. As a result we wont fit any of these items at all, we wont map any car fitted with one either. My word is my bond, seems like that doesn't apply to Tullet.

I'd just like to add that Chris has been a pleasure to deal with and his work of the highest quality. Chris seemed rather put out that Thorney booked a car in with him, but failed to turn up with no explanantion as I understand. In any case it's more work for Courtenay then which I'm sure will be good for them and the owners of the cars that take them there.

I've no knowledge of the issue Thorney has and wouldn't want to comment on that but, to add balance... I've been using Chris and Andy Tullet for my exhausts for a few years now. They did the exhaust on my current race car, my previous race car and the one before that too and also have made a fair few exhaust for Hofmann's customers. Their service has always been exceptional, their design skills and fabrications skills are second to none and they have been nothing but completely honest. Personally, I wouldn't go anywhere else.

i can see your point but taking that attitude isnt going to help yourself, what if someone buys a car that has one of these on and hasnt read up on this thread and they come to you for a remap, are you going to just turn them away??

it seems more like you are punishing the owner of the car rather than the person you believe broke your agreement..

personally i want a car that performs well for the cheapest amount of money, its already very expensive to tune the 2.2 so any little helps, from reading your reply here i just think that you are doing yourself out of business and i dont think you can realistically do that with Courtenays just around the corner.

just my 2p

I see your point but was hoping to come back to you in a few weeks for a dyno/map tweak once it had been fitted :(

Can't see the problem myself the design of the manifold is totally different from the Thorney one which is beautifully designed and built (I saw techieboys) However just because someone does fabrication for one company if they design and build another system which is totally different can't they sell it whoever they want? that is just business IMHO

As usual a few little half truths make up the story. The fact is we spent months going back and forth with three cars (2 2.2 cars and one VXT) designing and fabricating at least three different designs for both cars, on numerous ocassions designs had to be made and remade due to fit issues or wrong measurements but we perservered and came up with the best design that would fit in the apperture without the need to cut clams etc. During this time I followed Chris over from Primary Designs (where Chris used to work and with whom we dealt with) and from the outset was that all work was exclusive to us. I estimate we spend hundreds of hours fitting, refitting, mapping and repeating with these manifolds. We asked for price to be kept to a minium with the net result that we were charged £750 plus VAT for the finished item. Fast forward a few months and amazingly a new cheaper design has been developed from our design with the result that its half the price and Chris is selling it directly. Anyone think that is right or fair? I've no problem with the quality of the work just the ethics or lack of them from Chris and his dad and I whilst I dont like to lose business I have a pride in what we do even if they dont. To act in this regard is underhand, unbusinesslike and dishonorable. The racing/tuning World is relatively small I will make a point of action to let everyone I know that Tullet are lying cheats and are not to be trusted with design or creation of custom work. A car not turn up? Interesting, I assume you are referring to a Corsa which we did book in but cancelled one week before because the customer was a no show to us, your point being?

Not sure it helps but the TMS 4-1 is still the single sexiest bit of kit on my car, John.

ummmm"same design" as in, it leaves the engine in 4 tubes, has a simialr mounting flange at each end because of pre existing bolt holes, and needs to have 4 tubes meet at one point with a fairly constrained area to work in......... you could argue in that case that piper have ripped you off too, but also that you have ripped GM off. if on the other hand you had designed the engine/clam/exhaust yourselves and something similar turned up then yeah there is an issue. proving a bonafide "copy" in the automotive game is seriously expensive and time consuming work.

Who said we were going to sue, naff all chance of winning that. However, i do not take this lightly so we've spoken to another supplier who we've worked with in the past and we will be re-releasing our 4-1 and I will sell it a massive loss just to make a point. £200 each, incl VAT.
