Hi everyone,

Just seen this:

http://www.adrianbly...o...tail&id=111

Registration is V11 GDT, anyone like to claim previous ownership of it? It looks like it's been looked after, even has the UV cover on the expansion tank already fitted. Just wondered if anyone knows what life it's had.

Thinking of going to have a look saturday morning and also wondered if anyone is free who wouldn't mind having a look with me, in exchange for love and free biscuits or something :P . I really can't realistically get it though until I see an insurance quote below £3000 :( , even then I should really wait until May when I'm not living in a dodgy part of London. I also don't really fancy a silver one...but the spec looks sweet. Maybe I'll change my mind if I see it in the flesh.

PM me or post here please if interested in coming for a look with me thumbsup (bearing in mind that there's a 75% chance I won't buy :poke: )

Cheers.
Simon

£3000+ to insure a 220 Turbo? Seriously? Are you on a provisional license or a ban or something? That's insane. The risk profile of these cars is about as low as you could possibly get, you'd pay the same for a Nova... My car came from Adrian. Top bloke, I can't comment on the workmanship of his service staff but as far as buying the car and the quality of the car are concerned, he's top notch.

Lol, tell me about it. Granted I've only used gocompare so far and haven't looked into it in detail, but yeah...£3050 was the cheapest. I've got full licence, 21yrs old; 4yrs driving . Kept in a garage, <9000miles/year. I think my postcode is probably bad. The biggest problem I have though is my I only have no claims so far as a named driver which is not supposed to be transferred to my own policy unless it's with CIS (who I'm currently with as a named driver). The car I currently have is insured in my Dad's name with me as a named driver. Do you think it's worth maybe giving Adrian Flux a ring and explaining that situation to try and get discount?

Thanks for the 'review' of Adrian Blyth. thumbsup

That's far too much, I only paid £1500 for my Elise when I was 21 and I was in exactly the same situation as you - 0 NCB. I pay £1,000 now with Elephant doing 5,000 a year. I put a mate on my insurance who is 29 (I am now 23) and the price came down £600. Try putting a much older family member on as a named driver. Admiral/Elephant are by far the cheapest for younger drivers although make sure everything is 100% spot on when you purchase, because they do their research and will sting you later down the line if you claim. Brokers will never match the prices these big companies offer but they will offer a much better service and get you better cover - ie) like for like courtesy car, european cover, free legal etc. Brokes are around 20% more expensive because they buy from these companies and charge a fee on top.

Hmmm, cheers for that. Gives me a rough price to aim for as well. thanks thumbsup. I've heard Bell are good as well (which I believe is Admiral anyway?). Forgot to mention I had an accident 2.5yrs ago, my fault. Think that will have a big impact?

I can come over if you like. Will you be taking it out for a test drive as well? I have an NA so can only really comment on the stuff that both cars have. I would expect it to be mint for that price and year though. Pm me to arrange anyway.

An Accident 2.5 years ago = no insurance on a 220 Turbo. Group 19 car and you're 21. I think you should downgrade a little if you can't afford to get legit insurance, it will all end in tears. Try the NA, they're only group 16 and that makes a big difference.

Just tried a quote with Bell for an example.
£3320 - with all details legit including my Dad as named driver (48yrs old, 15+ years licence, no accidents)
£3131 - same as above but pretending I didn't have an accident at all.

Hasn't made as much difference as I expected. Why the hell is it so expensive?

Holy fu**ing christ! My postcode must be riduculously bad. Got it down with some fiddling to £2285 with Bell. Changed my postcode of where the car is kept overnight from home to my current work address (Fulham, 130 miles away), and it dropped down to £1419!!! :o Also it's £200 cheaper parking on-street rather than locked secure garage!?

Insurance risk by postcode

Does put you in a fairly high risk area... whereas over here in Cannock in WS11 I'm very low risk

Have you tried following the guide on Martin's Money Saving Expert

Some obvious stuff on there but well worth following his system to make sure you cover all insurers.

Buggerin' Henry, didn't realise Post Code made such a big difference. I guess that's your problem then - convertible, desirable car in a bad post code! Gutted :|

I have a leaking radiator and he recons he can get a replacement for £150. What pile of sh** radiator would that be! As with all these sales type people, they are really helpfuluntil they have to cough up! I will not be going back to him.

Sounds like the crime of the century....

Harsh to tarnish such a reputable dealer with something so trivial.

When you are selling cars for the price he wants, he should pay up when required as this is not a cheap job.
