Forgot about the MOT gag, and thought I'd maybe give MOTtest ago. I spoke to them about the jacking points and the car, etc.... and that you'd need to remove the undertray to jack the front up and then the back up as its only got the one behind the doors.
Well....his test ramp can't work in that configuration and removing the undertray wasn't an option to him? so no MOT today!!!!
Anyone got any idea around the Reading/Swindon area of decent mot testers?
Just tell them about the jacking points and ask them to be carefull, no need to do any thing special, like removing bits... Just inspect the car before and after the test so any damage is down to them, let them be part of the inspection.... good luck....

Anyone know the points? as i was under the impression that they are underneath the undertray's?
The way i interpreted the jacking point diagram, there was the ones at the back of the doors, and the others are hidden?
Either way i'm not gonna take it somewhere who won't take responsibility if it goes wrong!!! Can't blame the guy saying no, if he's never had a lotus or vx220 on the ramp before.
No not under the undertray and certainly no need to remove for an mot.Under the car there should be a sticker either side, thats where the jacking points are.

When I have had my 220 MOTd the undertrays have never needed to be removed, the car was just jacked up at the front and the rear independantly, sorry I never got close enough to see exactly where they placed the pads but there are points at the front and rear where the car can be raised to get the wheels off the ground without the need to remove the undertray.
Same for mine they never jacked it up or removed anything. That said the place i get my car motd has a pit so they can walk underneath, so i guess there is no need to lift it up.

Correct me if I am wrong but I'm sure the rules say nothing is to be removed from a car to carry out an MOT. We have tested hundreds of VXs at TMS and the undertrays do not have to come off.
I asked at my last MOT and all they have to do is get the wheels off the ground to check for play, no undertray off, jack up each side and check.

Ding aling,
its against the rules to remove somthing to test for MOT. If they cant see it they have to trust its ok. They can only test what they can see or feel (like play in the ball joints etc)

As Ian said no need to take the under trays off. I presume the MOT station has a small lifting beam that they jack up by hand on the ramp (most of them do). Easy peasy !! Get him to place the lifting pads under the position where the chasis rail meets the fron bulkhead, at the outer edges of the under tray . On the rear. place the pads on the rear lower trailing arms, where the shock absorber connects to the trailing arm.

Nice one, thats exactly what he got, but he wasn't sure if the undertray of the car would take it. At which point i wasn't gonna let him shoulder the blame to me if it went wrong which i'm sure is what he wanted to do.
Right, Mr MOT down the road, i'm on my way!!!
Thanks everyone!!!
