I got the sticky one, wasn't sure the suction one would stick. Now I know what the F1 drivers mean when they can't see out their mirrors. :P

OK, so insurance for a year was £1,900. Remaining value after one year, zero. A new BJ Clubman trailer with options is £1,900 including vat. Remaining value after five years is at least £1,000! Fits in domestic garage too. Therefore, the hope for next year is to get a trailer and do a few track days. Also hope to be cheeky and get a tow bar on next company car, be it a Skoda Superb estate or VW Amarok. :)

There are still a few issues to sort on the car. The off side brake light does not work, and the shifter needs to be adjusted. Interestingly, with the Sachs coil overs I would NOT put a bigger front bar on for track use. The 205 fronts contribute to a slightly numb front end as it is. As I get more comfortable with it I would start making the geo a bit more aggressive but that is it. No point in an ABS switch because the ABS is hopeless! Oh, and the new battery is kaput from draining due to lack of use. I am considering modifying the sump to make the dipstick reading more accurate. Really don't look forward to next oil change with the normal 2.2 oil filter housing debacle though.

I put a new battery in it today. Wow, what a PITA! Had to remove heater duct, heater control, brake booster hose, and cut the zip ties on the wiring loom so that I could pull it out of the way. Even then I had to turn the battery onto one end to pull it out, so the handle was useless. Why do people suggest batteries with handles!? Oil level was about 1/3L over full after sitting for months, so probably about right. Started and ran fine. Drove it around the parking lot to get some rust off the brakes and not park it back on the same flat spots in the tyres. Company car with tow bar due end of May, BJ on 6 week lead time from order, so ideally order a trailer around Easter! Had a free pass to Bedford yesterday if I had been ready and the weather was epic . . .

Pulled the VX out today. It was so nice out that I decided to wash it. Well, let the kids wash it! First wash since rebuild, so the first in at least 4 years if you don't count washing various parts during the rebuild?

Real shame you couldn't get it on the road! Will it be worth more broken. If you have the time?

Cheers guys! Insurance went up too much. If I don't get a reasonable offer, then yes I plan to break it this winter.

surely it just needs an IVA. Or have we covered this in here before?

Refused IVA for being too counter-culture. Not illegal to rebuild, but Insurance companies not happy for me to and government in cahoots so even though not against the law they will not IVA it. I could still run it on current V5, but insurance is £2K due to being registered Cat C. VIC marker so no V5 for new owner. Chassis changed, so no passing VIC test.

I haven't really looked into exporting. Theoretically it could go somewhere as an incomplete car, but really depends on that country's rules.
