A big thanks to Duncan VXR for putting humpty dumpty back together with tigerseal (heater box). It is now bolted down and plumbed in. chinky chinky

A HUGE thanks to Vocky for coming by with a BIG disc cutter and helping to separate the old tub for metal and plastic recycling bins. thumbsup

We recovered pretty much everything off of the old tub. Only things left on it are the rear window and the top of the pedal box. Take those off and haul it to the scrapyard next.

I do have the crashbox off the old tub finally, well with 6" of the old tub still attached.

Cheers. Considering that 2 of us still can't carry it, it ought to be worth a bit.

Yeah, only half a million things to do now. Big one is still going to be the crash box. :angry2:

Well, no progress to report. However, I am thinking that it is time to get the bodywork done so that I have a chance of getting it on the road by the end of spring. Since I have not been able to find any colours that I prefer, it looks like it is going to stay Calypso. That also means that the next step is prepping the bodywork for the paint shop. There is a little to do on the clams, but the main bits will be sorting out the roll bar cover, doors and mirrors. They are going to do some repairs to the fiberglass, but everything has been indoors and dry for 15 months so hopefully in good shape to be repainted without much risk of bubbling. Maybe I should repaint all of the grills before they repaint all of the fiberglass, or should I do it after?

I would give it a good paint prior Theo - you will be able to give it some good coats from either side ;) - could always give it a final coat when back as it does not take long :) Hope the bag did not smudge the tiger seal too much as it was still a bit wet when you collected it :( Trust Ian to get all the fun with the BIG blade lol Time to get serious and get it done while you are allowed to play out :D DG

Good point. Probably worth going over it with a wire brush too.

Not bothered about the tiger seal. Took it out of the bag, and dumped it in the car. thumbsup

Yes, Neil did seem to enjoy himself. We were both impressed with the amount of metal that had to be cut!

Well, a bit more progress today. Borrowed a plasma cutter and got most of the big chunks of metal off of the back of the crash box. A bit more work and it will be down to not much more than the actual metal that the crash box is bonded to. Hopefully it will be easier to cut off then. :angry2: I also took the rear window and then the rear bulkhead off of the old tub. It is now ready for the metal recyclers. Will have to take it at luch someday. Any guesses how much money I'll get for it? I also started preparing the body parts for paint. They will do the final prep, but I am taking off lights and trim and whatever else will easily come off. There is a bit of cleaning off tiger seal as well. Hopefully I can get that all done next weekend, I want the stuff to go to the body shop soon after.

I can remember him saying there wasn't a massive weight loss in the rear screen, but the door glass weighs loads

I think that I've decided what to do with my spare passenger side heater pipe that runs down the sill - use it as a hard line for the brake servo hose :P :D

OK, another big thanks to DuncanVXR! thumbsup This time for using up a really nice afternoon on my car instead of his. I see myself under his helping do rods in the near future. We got a lot of work done on the fiberglass bits to prepare them for the paint shop. The rool bar cover and front clam are ready. The rear clam and the one side sill that I am re-using are almost ready. Duncan did forget to take the engine cover prop rod and the rear light clusters out of the rear clam though. :P While we had the angle grinder out opening the brackets behind the rear wheel well liners I also separated the exhaust at the 3-bolt flange (it was taken off in 1 piece). Now I can put the downpipe back on and reconnect the lambdas. Add the binnacle and a battery and it would probably start. I am thinking of sending the doors, bonnet, and engine cover to the paint shop as a second batch later. The replacement door that I got needs a little work, but the rest of those parts are in excellent condition. They also bolt on easily at the end, and I don't want stuff laying around too long after paint and getting damaged. The paint shop says that it won't be an issue for matching. I do want to fit the Leon splitter before the front clam goes to paint, and I am thinking of doing the window surround and the mirrors in anthracite after seeing pics of AliM's car. chinky chinky

I haven't had a chance to run it over yet. I am toying with the idea of taking it to the diygarages day and getting someone to show me how to replace it.

Here is a pic of the tub ready for the scrapyard. I have been using the plasmacutter to whittle away at the metal still on the crashbox. I have been doing it in the tub in a vain attempt to control the mess.

Should give you a good few quid. We sell quite a bit of scrap metal at the yards for our tea boat. We change about 5 vehicle batterys a week and that gets us around £25. Last time though i took down a cracked ally head from an escort and to my supprise they took it. Even still had some steel bolts in that i couldnt get out. Weighed it down a little :)
