Ok then, so I regularly see this pic floating around as an explanation of the jacking points.

Posted Image

The inner two being for a trolley jack, the outer four being for a lift.

Concerning the lift, is the undertray not in the way...?

At Courtenays they lifted the car up on the lift, and removed the undertray whilst it was up, which would suggest they used different jacking points....?

I'm just trying to get this 100% clarified as I'm going to use a garage that are not familiar with VX's to do a little work for me, and I want to be sure the car is lifted safely.

You can use the middle points on a two post lift, as they are just forward of where the undertray slides in, they are right on the tipping balance point, with four swing out arms, the arms by the front wheels don't carry a lot of weight due to the heavy engine. So a rear support under the gearbox is advisable if you are removing weight from the front, like the wheels. The two rear points are the rear sub frame, that the undertray big bolts go to.

Are you sure Courtenay's didn't just lift the car on it's wheels and then once it was in the air, removed the undertrays and use a lifting beam on the jacking points if/when they removed the wheels? When mine was in there a few weeks back for the SC conversion they whipped off the rear diffuser when it was on the ground in 30 seconds whilst I wasn't really looking.

In order to access the rear jacking points, the rear undertray/diffuser has to come off as the undertray uses the lifting points as a fixing point. Front points are always accessible.

Still not convinced that diagram is 100% correct as it's missing another set of lifting points on the shear panel underneath the fuel tank.

Must admit , that I also use the bit where the rear subframe bolts onto the main chassis beams to put an axle stand, as you can easily get to this with a rear wheel on, similar to point C

:yeahthat: That indeed is a good place to put axle stands. I use 2 wood blocks which fit nicely in the angled recess and onto my stands. thumbsup

Points A on Techie's diagram are very close to the centre-of balance, a VX liftted on a two post jack with the four swing arms at A's rear and B' front would be in danger of overbalancing
backwards, the result looks something like this:

Suggest avoid these types of jack if possible (use four poster or pit instead) and if you must use 2 post 4 leg type, ratchet stap front suspensiosn to front leg, until you are able to remove undertray and reset rear legs under rear subframe (points D)

Got a nice screw in my tyre so took it to my local tyre fitters today to be fixed - they were of course unsure of the jacking points, its my rear offside tyre so can I assume its point C on the below diagram?? And does this involve removing the undertray to access? Cheers Rob

I'd use point A and no need to remove undertray for it.

Yes point a is the one to use for this, will lift the complete side of the car, if you look under the car inline witht the rear edge of the door you should have stickers marking the points
