Hi revs and Piper cams don't work too well, you need more than just cams to get a decent gain with longevity.

We noted that the cam follower had lifted from the backside of the lobe on these used items. I hope my upgraded springs+accesories will be the cure.

Finally after nearly 2 months from order my 68mm TB is arrived,now i need to port the Dbilas intake from 60mm to 68mm ,need also an adapter flange because the screw position is little different...

Hi cicastol, let us know how you get on with the Dbilas porting. I will have to do the same if I go down the 68 TB route.

Fitted the 68mm TB on the Dbilas intake,really a fcuking hard job,3 hours of a pro mechanical shop with a CNC grinder + 2 hours by me for finishing,need first a conical grinding (30°) then the hole is not exactly same position as the original so it is needed a re grind only on one side for proper alignement,and most of all there's not enough space on the wall of the intake.... :9mm: :beat:
Now is perfectly fitted but is not easy!!!

Has anybody used the OP 1148EC cam from Crower Cams, and if so what sort of results are you getting and what other modifications do you have to compliment what is admittedly a wild cam?

I think Dude has them, but he has not used them yet AFAIK. U need, I think, better inlet/outlet, p&p head with an angle valve job, higher compression ratio. Dunno wot happens if u just install the cam? Air starvation? Often they state +23 HP for such a cam and +12-15 for a milder one. In that case 230-240 HP must be possible, I guess.

My plans are: Wiesco forged 11:1 pistons Eagle con rods Ported and polished head with +1mm intake valves (S/S valves, dual springs, titanium caps) Stock crank and girdle Light flywheel and pulley Sachs clutch TMS throttle bodies (when they land) Wepon R extractor manifold (unless I can have one made that fits without butchering the boot) Accusump And of course the requisite suspension/braking mods and a balance of all rotating engine parts. What do you think?

The +1 mm does not help the flow according to some sources. Myself I have: Machined 11:5 head Eagle con rods Ported and polished head with Stock crank and girdle Light flywheel and pulley Wepon R extractor manifold Own design inlet 68 mm TB 267° regrinds I hope this will result in 210-220 HP. With the 288° ones slightly more 220-240 :rolleyes:

Very similar spec overall.

I toyed with the idea of the 68mm throttle body but I think TMS throttle bodies are they way to go for a hopped-up NA. I take your point about the valve sizes, but while it's in bits I'm doing all or nowt ;)
any gain has got to be good and it has to be in part be down to who's modifying the head.

I'm going for forged pistons because GM, I think, rates the standard ones at 240hp so robust is the order of the day.

Where are you based? Sweden?

Didn´t know that about the piston ratings. I think the revs must be the critical factor, so there ought to be a rev rating, not power?? The TMS TB:s must be an excellent choice. However, my budget has a limit! Yes, I live in Sweden.

Think GM were running 600hp on a stock crank with wiesco pistons (low comp) at 9000rpm (turbocharged) so yes revs is the critical issue. Do you have the GM Ecotec perfomance manual? it's a fascinating read. It's available as a pdf I can put it on CD and post if you like.

I've sold some of my other cars to fund this madness. Mk 1 lotus Cortina has gone :(

Having said that just bought 4.6L 32v 4cam Mustang Cobra engine and box crate motor for another project. Suppose if I had brains I'd be dangerous :blink:

I think thats the US spec pistons which GM rate to 300BHP... But we have different pistons here in the UK with a different comp ratio IIRC...
