As promised from my other thread on the above, here is how to check to see if your Boost control solenoid is duff. My symptoms, (and others) were a flutter or chatter on lift off between gear changes when under load. Part is about £20 from VXL. (1) Remove Boost control valve (2) Blow into metal inlet piece, air should come out of Tee piece outlet adjacent to electrical connector. (3) Place finger over Tee piece outlet adjacent to electrical connector. (4) Blow into metal inlet piece. (this should seal the valve and you should not be able to blow) (5) If air escapes through unblanked outlet, then solenoid valve is unservicable. Disclaimer, this is what I found to be my problem, and should be used for information only. Hope this helps if someone searches, there are other posts with a picture of the location of the vave if you search. Cheers Rob

Thankyou very much for that! thumbsup thumbsup thumbsup Pardon my ignorance, but when you say remove boost control valve, do you have to undo any bolts or does it clip off? I'm at work and the car is at home so I cant take a look but I'm dying to know how to do it! Thanks again.

There are two torx botls E8 or 10 I think. Slacken off the bottom one. Remove the top one comlpetley after you have removed the three hoses and the electrical connector. chinky chinky

Just changed my Boost Control Soleniod today. What a massive difference it has made. It has removed all the awful chattering and fluttering from the turbo when on part throtle. I found the chattering very annoying when tracking at Rockingham a few weeks back. Thanks to the forum for the advice and pointers!!!! :groupjump:

just thinking that the BCS is not actually changed when doing a turbo swap out as its located by the inlet manifold? only the wastegate actuator and solenoid comes as part of the turbo

Yes that must be correct as my car has had these symptoms since I bought it in Jan and its had a new AET tubo since then and the fluttering was still present.

All gone now though! thumbsup

At the right hand side of the heat shield where the intake pipe goes into the turbo, that the intake pipe off and you will see a little solenoid with 3 pipes and a connector joining into it. Thats the one...

the one that controls the recirc valve and therefore amount of boost, is located on the other side of the engine from the turbo. If you were to reach down by the throttle body you can see where the two vacuum pipes split off from the solenoid. the solenoid that controls the wastegate actuator is located on top of the turbo ( and is not normally the problem , ime )

Sorry for the thread revival but did the noise that you guys experienced sound anything like this?

LINK

Hoping this may solve my annoying issue and it'd be great to do it for £20 :) does anyone know the part number for the BCS below the TB?

Check all the boost pipes. I find it easier to remove the middle undertray. Steve.

Steve.

Are all the relevant boost pipes accessible from the bottom or do you need to take one or both of the rear wheels off to check some of the pipes?

Shouldn't need to take any of the wheels off. You really do need to get under the car to inspect some of the lower boost pipes though.
Check all the pipework from the recirc valve back to the inlet BCS. Occasionally the pipes can pop off the solenoid. I have bypassed mine altogether.

Will do. Thanks for the help chaps! Now I have to find a time when I can get underneath! By inlet BCS do you mean the turbo inlet or the inlet manifold BCS… or both

Inlet BCS is the one by the inlet manifold, closest to you as you look from the back - this one connects directly to the recirc valve. thumbsup

Cheers. I checked the pipes that attach to this BCS and they all seem to be attached alright. I am planning on removing them soon and performing the 'test' mentioned by the OP thumbsup

To be honest i'm hoping to find something as simple (and cheap) as a split boost pipe but I wouldn't cry if paying £20 for a new BCS sorted the damn noise.

Hi
Looks like I need a new boost control solenoid (due to chatter on lift off etc)
- sent an enquiry to Autovaux and they came back with this:
VALVE,SOLENOID,TURBOCHARGER WASTEGATE ACTUATOR VACUUM CONTROL, price is £20.45 + vatP&P from £2.63

Does this sound like the exact part i need? Sounds right to me but can anyone confirm or got a part number?

Ideally I'd like to order it by the time they shut (1pm) this avo

Many thanks!
