Just wondered the average cost for changing the timing chain in a VX220 N/A. I want to make sure I'm paying a fair rate at my local! Is this an engine out number or can it be done with engine in situ? I look forward to hearing from you all. Nick

Engine in-situ. Engine mount needs releasing so that the engine can be lifted slightly on the drivers side to enable a timing chain cover bolt to be removed but, certainly not necessary to remove clam or engine. There's a mechanic called Bennie on the z22se who fits them for about £300 - I think. No idea what a Vauxhall dealership would charge or a VX specialist like TMS/Courtenay/etc.

I was just going to do the cam chain. Vocky said the balancer chain never goes.

There is the official VX guide on the NL speedster site, but Slindborg and others have suggested the Astra or Vectra book of lies (Haynes manual).

I've a feeling my balancer tensioner probably makes racker  but then its never failed so meh.
If its cheap then its worth doing while there, but its the owners call.

the tis is handy to get started, but then the haynes takes over in usefulness

I don't consider costing more than the cam chain to be "cheap". :angry2:

Already £250 in service items on this engine as it is, not including oil!

All I care about is how to line it all up, and the torque values.

Manual, we don't need no stinking manual! :P :D

(Might change my tune when it comes to putting stuff back together. It all came apart with almost zero need for instructions. )

Yeah, once I find TDC.

I think every bolt on this engine is a stretch bolt. How much is 15 degrees again.
