The vx is a specialist type of car and accident damage is very easy to hide (just look at the guy recently who found the rear chassis damage hidden behind a sill). Thats why when I went to buy my car (which is a Cat D and I knew it was before buying it) I searched the forum and read every post relating to my car by the previous 2 owners. I also looked at all the pics of previous accident damage and checked the old mots. I also HPI'd the car when I went to look it and spent a good 90mins inspecting the car and mulling it over before leaving a deposit with the seller. It's very easy to let your heart rule your head when buying a car. I frankly would be to embarrassed to ask the seller for money back if I had paid for the car then done the research after buying the car. Also from the posts I've read in this thread these isn't any actual faults with the car (it seems to be mechanically sound). You just seem to feel you've been ripped off because you've found a descrepency in the mileage of the car which should have been easily spotted by doing the usual checks i.e Hpi and checking Mot's. The reason for the mileage descrepency seems reasonable too as if you search the forum the turbo clocks do seem to be more prone to breaking down and having mileage errors. If I was selling the car I would have probably told you about the clocks being swapped as it's in both our interests but I certainly don't think it's worth a £1200 refund! Just my opinion. chinky chinky

Just a quick question but, do you like the car? Mine was/is CatD and I love it. Probably paid half what you paid though!

Four pages of pointless bitching, and armchair law  There is absolutely no point either of the parties asking to keep this thread alive for 'people's opinions' - because unless the poster is a qualified solicitor, it's all just groundless summising and playground side-taking

I am inclined to agree with Y or B right now. It has gone too far on the forum, and I simply felt I had to put my side forward so as to make it less of a 1 sided bitching. I feel there's been some good advice amongst the 'grow up' and 'jog on' comments so it hasn't been completely useless. Thanks for the advice from the people who actually knew what they were talking about, much appreciated. Regards

Your welcome. Thanks for recognising the value of our knowledge despite the lack of formal/official qualification (although I am merely a two-year training contract away from being a qualified solicitor).

Don't get me wrong YoB, I like you and you often give a valuable reply/opinion. However, I take offence to your last post which implied that those who aren't qualified solicitors cannot therefore give an opinion with legal merit. Four years of studying law at the highest educational level should serve to disprove your assumption. It should, at the very least, afford me the opportunity to offer my input and share my acquired knowledge!

Afterall, how many times have people given advice on these forums that perhaps only a qualified mechanic should give!?

Anyway, lets allow the forum return to it usual role: an excellent source of info for the VX with friendly, helpful and knowledgeable members. :grouphug:

There's a difference between asking whether you should paint your VX Krypton Green, and asking whether you have a case in law to sue someone/whether another party has a case in law to sue you. My point was that both parties asked for people's opinions. But with regard to solving the topic in-hand, there is no room for opinions - only cold, hard, legal facts. Either Freedo is culpable or is not; either the other party has a case against him in law, or does not. Yes, we live in a society of free speech - and we can all share our opinion on this subject, but that's not going to lead to a resolution. It's just extraneous white noise, when instead the parties involved should be using the time better to come to an agreement off-line, or seeking legal advice. If you feel you are sufficiently qualified in the legal field to give sound advice on the topic, then you shouldn't be taking offence. However I am well aware (from experience) how generic what was the CPE/legal degrees and the LPC are (that's aside from the fact that unless you are a practising solicitor, it is possible that some of what you learnt in acadaemia has been surpassed by more recent legislation) - so in my opinion, unless you are qualified in the field of law being discussed - it is possible that your points should not be taken to be the most sound legal advice available. I just wouldn't want either party to be taking as read, anything posted on a forum by people who may not have to hand the most accurate, applicable information. That was all I meant. It was nothing personal to anyone on here.

intresting read there, Im sure if you looked at any car buying tips in magazines etc they always say do hpi checks and check the car either yourself or get a AA inspection done if your not qualified to do this yourself or take it to a lotus specialist to check it which they would do. also you mention the ride felt good and job done right! How would you know if it was right or wrong if you were a passanger? and from sounds of it never had a vx before? Also if i was purchase i would of said yes would like car, could you give me 24hours to check some things out and do some research on this forum and maybe ask what you should look for on a cat d car like a lot of new owners do. Ive had two vx's now and have done everything a could possibly do to make sure I knew what i was getting with hpi checks and spending a hour or more checking it over and a good test drive. By sounds of it your happy with the general drive of the car and im sure the price was good so why not get on and drive/enjoy the car or sell it on and find another one that you have checked properly. hope you all get this sorted out

Just out of interest..... as this topic talks about mileage discrepancies, does anyone know if the ECU on the vx220 (turbo or NA) stores the correct mileage i.e. aka ECU backup/hidden mileage memory?? Tech ll can read the mileage memory on late Vauxhalls but I don't know if it can on the vx?
