Just out of interest..... as this topic talks about mileage discrepancies, does anyone know if the ECU on the vx220 (turbo or NA) stores the correct mileage i.e. aka ECU backup/hidden mileage memory??
Tech ll can read the mileage memory on late Vauxhalls but I don't know if it can on the vx?

Gaaaaaaah your car has the same name as me

There is evidence of mileage altering, posts on here, previous MOT and it is now showing alot less.

Sorry, but no luck for you mate. It is not illegal to mention on a public forum a different milage as your car has in reality. For instance, if the car had only done 20.000 miles, and the previous owner wrote in this forum it has done 50.000 (for whatever reason), then it's only his business. It want hold for any court as evidence that the milage has been tempered.
It would be a whole other story however, if the milage was officially noted at the MOT a year before the sale at 50.000 miles, and the speedo only shows 20.000 when you bought it.

Oops, should have read the posts further  Seems the story is somewhat complicated. Of course, the 717.000 miles the MOT noted want probably hold as evidence either, as there is no way a Speedster would do that many miles in such a period. So it all comes down to what milage you can prove the car had really done before the speedo was switched, and if the seller have told you that.

Which is why I've asked if anyone knows if the VXT ECU holds a memory of the mileage. This whole issue with tampered mileage might (might) be answered if it can be read by Tech 2. If the speedo/instrument cluster was changed because of a genuine fault then the mileage stored in the ECU (if it does store it on the vx) will still show the correct original mileage... edit: spelling

Nothing to do with this at all, but rather interestingly, newer BMW's hold the mileage info in the keys as well as the ECU and dash!!

Exactly. Vauxhalls from 2001 (IIRC) hold the info in the ECU as well as the dash but I just don't know about the VXT ECU.

Just out of curiosity.... Its not an Opel Speedster 2002 is it per chance? If it is its probably the one I crashed and it should say 81,000 as when I bought it the dash was replaced after 10k which means the actual is up by andother 10k.

gyppo 1st gen "new" ECU's FTL

Some new cars even stick bits of the milage in the radio/abs/dash/all over the place and rebuild the number if the ecu and dash disagree.
