Hi This just started tonight. I gave the VX a wash and polish and set off for a drive in the sun. About 10 minutes into the journey I braked and noticed that there was a loud and strange creaking type noise coming from the front. It seems to be coming from the front driver's side caliper!! If the car is stationary and the brake pedal is pressed the noise appears, if you're rolling down a hill and press the pedal it makes the noise too!! Im a little concerned and could do with some advice on first things to investigate!!! Hoses, caliper, pad???? ETC! Thanks

Probably just brake dust build up - a good clean may well sort them out

If it's there when the car is stationary check the caliper mount bolts are secure , any vibration when driving /braking ?

Hmmm, thanks for the suggestion but it seems to be way more than just brake dust build up! I tried cleaning around as much as possible. Ive never heard anything like it on any car before!

Its a kind of creaking / grating noise, not a squeak.

Yeah, maybe that is a good place to start. Performance doesnt seem to have been affected, they appear to function fine, although I dont have much trust in them when their making that noise!!

The other strange thing is that the noise isnt their if the car rolls backwards, just when rolling forwards!!??

:yeahthat:

Is a known problem if you have 1144 or other carbon rich pads.

Take the pads out & take the caliper off, give it a good clean and put it back together.

Hi Tom

Did this sort out your problem? mine has been like this for a while now, as there has been no loss in performance it hasnt really bothered me. I DO have 1144s fitted, when you say give it a good clean is there any need to replace seals etc?

thanks

Mine creak like mad, mainly when hot. Not sure why it does it though! Did the clean take care of it?

Possibly daft question but are you sure it's the calipers? I had a lot of creaking down there that I assumed was the brakes and it turned out to be the actual brake pedal

Mine sounds like the pedal... How did you sort? WD40?

Mine did this before too. I just changed the pads and it took care of it. It is usually a build up of dirt on the back of the pads.. Though you should also check the capplier isnt seized at one end as it would cause it to squeek too.

i had the same sorta thing on my previous Civic Type R, i had ferodo 2500 pads on them, and when ever i pressed and released the pedel i could here a creaking noise, i changed my pads with new ferodo 2500 all round and the noise stopped! I later found out it was because my pads were low...
