The only surefire way of ensuring you can get in is to fit a mechanical device attached to the same point as the locking motor in the door that pulls the lock to the open position when pulled from outside....

Is that "mechanical device" to open the lock not called a key??
(Not sure on the inner workings of the VX lock, so maybe the key is useless when the CL is activated?)

Keys are rendered useless when the central locking is fitted - the VX locking mechanisms are very bizzare!

I removed the black plastic panel in the door to see the lock mechanism. Underwhelmed is an understatement

All done!!!! Central locking now fitted to my NA and connected to the orginal alarm, so operated via the alarm fob!!! I think in totally it has taken me about 14 hours and £30. Will put up some more photos tomorrow.

£30 ?!!! I got quoted £300 to get this fitted professionally ... I may have to consider this ... I may need to enlist an electrical engineer friend though ... when it comes to things that are electric as far as i am concerned you push a button and, subject to a power supply i.e. wall socket or battery ... it works

I think this is a definite worthwhile mod ... i few weeks ago, when all the snow was around, my lock froze shut ... i had no other way to get in the car but to p*ss on the lock ... i was literally wounded when i eventually got in the car

Which central locking kit was it ???

When the whole lock barrel freezes, it doesn't make much difference if it is locked or unlocked, as you can't push it to open the door.

Make yourself a lock cover (see below) put some lock de-icer / anti-freeze inside the cover before putting on the lock, and it won't freeze.

There's a thread on here about it somewhere...

It's made out of a piece of hose pipe, split down the side (as standard hose pipe is not wide enough to go around the lock) then patched up so there are no gaps, then another peice of hose pipe cut into a circle shape to form the lid. Glued together.
Mine fits quite snug around the lock.
I then painted it with waterproof silver paint, which seals any small gaps, makes it waterproof, and also stops it from standing out when you leave it on your car lock when parked up.
