Didn't realise you'd taken over the baton from Sir Peter Ustinov, as master of the witty reposte Stumpy! The man's barely cold in the ground. Anyway, I'm having fun with you, so I'm going to tell you why I'm still here. You did ask. Don't know whether you know, but hard drug users are a tight knit group. They hang around with other hard drug users, partly because someone always has an 'in' on supplies (which are difficult to get) but mainly because they know they're doing wrong...they know there's a better way...they know they should change...they know they're damaging their health, finances and reputation...but while there are others around them doing the same thing, their actions are legitimised. And those around them help perpetuate the situation, because they don't want to be left alone with the problem...or feel bad because someone else kicked a habit which they can't. Now.... Imagine someone manages to break free...someone who was equally seduced by that first 'hit', but like all the rest, came to realise that it was a road to ruin. They took action, and kicked the habit for ever. What should that person do? Should they walk away, saying there but for the grace of God go I....or should they go back and try to help a fellow addict, who's shown the first signs of wanting to make a better life for himself, but is being dragged back by his fellow junkies, into a life of ever downward spiralling despair? You see now Stumps old pal...I HAVE to be here.

Having at least one practical car (with 4 seats!) would be great for us and family and far more practical for the business.

If I could see a way round this I would do it, but I can not. We can't afford another third car

What you must remember is that you only lose your outlay on the VX if you sell it and take the depreciation hit.

As others have said, a more practical car in addition too the VX need not involve great financial outlay – unless you insist on a new or nearly luxurymobile like a Range Rover or S Class Mercs.

Even a 5-year old 3-door hatchback would be a great step forward in the practicality stakes. I use a Pug 106GTI for the sort of things you seem to require (though have a big 4x4 for serious stuff). For a couple of thousand you can get something usable and no longer need to get frustrated at the limitations the VX imposes on you. Or perhaps a medium sized estate such as Escort?

This board is full of complaints (including several from me :P ) about the appalling so-called "customer service" that we endure at the hands of GM. On the whole, that is the far greater shortcoming than any issues with the car itself – though I can understand the irritation of frozen locks, bubbling paint, etc.

If you really have had it with the car, youi might be best off to sell, take time out to consolidate your position over the next year or so, then buy back into the VX experience with a VXT with central locking and proven paint stability. Personally, if I was starting anew, I would go for the Elise 111R when you return, though I can't say if Lotus customer care in the UK is any better than that of GM – but could they be worse? Sure you'll still be welcome in the forum and at any events even if you turn up in a repmobile until you've sorted which way you want to go. :)

Stumps, Gosh you're right. Just re-read all your previous contributions to this thread. At first I thought they were the work of an uneducated, ill mannered cretin...but having looked again I can see that they are in fact the outpourings of a great witt, (sic) albeit in the post-modern ironic genre. I have clearly been batting out of my intellectual league, and apologise most humbly. Game set and match to Stumpy-Baby...Very well done my friend. Imnotworthy

To JDH and Stumpy, it was amusing at first and now its just tiresome, if you want to take pieces out of each other then do it via PM, Email or in real life. If either of you post again in this thread simply to have a pop at each other then I'll either delete it or amend it to make you look like a twat. :9mm: To VEX, life is too short to worry about little things like cars going wrong but the simple measure is this; if you spend more time worrying about what it is costing/problems than you do enjoying it then get shot and have another go when those issues are less important. As you know (and anyone else for that matter) the fact you've sold the car doesn't mean you're no longer welcome on this board.....we're like the Marines, you're never an 'ex' Marine :D End of the day the car is simply a car and this club is simply a club but the same applies to both - the more you put in the more you get out of them. :grouphug:
