on another seperate note....how many have you been offered the palmersport day ...free with a new VXR????? personally....I am not fussed with spending a full day at Palmersport......I rather have a good day at the track with instruction..... watch this space...I know a man who may help Mani Mani I have ordered my VXR from Lance Owen Heathrow and checked up on the palmersport day which was confirmed. I was under the impression that it was a track day at palmersport? By the way for the other members reading this I ordered mine in late July and was given a Sept/Oct delivery date, and the wait is driving me crazy.

you could always go and buy the one that is sat in the show room. That way you don't have to wait as long. ;)

Spent half an hour behind the wheel of no. 4 on Sunday, thanks to Motorbodies. This was a press car with 4K on the clock. Apparently their demonstrator had suffered some damage and may be written off - one gone already? My thoughts after a back to back drive- Brakes. I have RS-14's on mine as did this car - no difference Engine. No visual difference. 10% is not a big hike and I was not expecting the car to feel significantly faster, but, felt exactly the same as mine. Only difference I noticed was the VXR turbo did not spin up until nearly 3000 rpm, reducing the spread of useable power. Interior. Immediately reminded myself why I removed the 'head protectors.' The seats are comfy, but lack the padding and lumbar adjustment of standard. The 'race seats' without harness provision is a bit sad IMO. Suspension. This was the revelation. I wanted to find a harsh crashy ride, but was amazed at the initial pliancy, followed by a barely perceptable firming. Clearly a less cushioned set up than the VXT, but not detracting from the pleasure on the road. Steering and tyres. Also surprised to find lighter and more fidgety steering, reminiscent of an S1 Elise. Not too wise to start high speed cornering within the first 30 minutes and the set up was feeding me different signals that I was familiar with, so no opinion here. Would I buy one? Impressed though I was, there are two reasons the VXR is not for me. Firstly 048's are not an everyday year round tyre and secondly, the suspension does not appear to be track optimised. All cars are compromises, the VXT is the best I have come across for my purposes and the VXR does not appear to advance the game in my direction. But for you 61, enjoy. I can't wait to meet one of you on the track!!!

Brakes.  I have RS-14's on mine as did this car - no difference

Don't forget the ABS works tho mate!

I am driving round in my dealers Demo VXT.

So I have now done 20000 miles in a standard VXT.
7000 in a AMD stage 2 VXT
1500 miles in a VXR
and this weekend back to a standard VXT.

My feelings about the VXR v VXT.

Performance. Modded VXT as fast or faster than a VXR until you reach a corner then the VXR disapears. But I admit I have no experience of Nitrons. The understeer on the VXT is dramatic after having driven a VXR. Grip levels being lower means oversteer is always available tho and I am having fun drifting round in a VXT where I am not paying for the tyres. I have not really noticed the Turbo spooling up at higher revs myself but it could be the case. Most of the time I am above 3000rpm anyway!

Interior. The carbon fibre stuff is tacky and cheap looking. The seats are very comfy. And for support far better than the leather ones in my VXT. Added bonus of the Alcantara is that they are cool to sit on unlike the baking hot black leather when the sun is out.

Looks - VXR wins everytime in my eyes although the black paint on my 'V' is already chipped.

Costs. My insurance went up about £150 for the year. I had to fit a tracking Device - £350. Tyres - lets just not go there. Fuel consumption - no exact figures but far worse than a VXT.

Brakes. Does exactly what it says on the tin! (At last.)

Overall. Performance per pound the VXT is better value. But I love the VXR! (Except for blown the AMM.) I think most of my preferences for the VXR come down to the wheels and tyres.

I was interested in Partridge's comments about perceived performance of the VXT and VXR engines. I quite agree a 10% differential isn't much in itself but I had understood the increased torque made a noticeable difference, in particular as Vauxhall quote a 0-60 of 4.7 for the VXT and "under" 4.2 for the VXR. Or have Vauxhall upped the red line on the VXR so you can achieve 60mph in second? Just curious  Edited to ask whether anyone knows if the VXR suffers from the same flat spot around the 3,500 rpm mark that plagues some of the VXTs, or whether the new map has cured this? Also (last question - honest!) whether anyone's planning to get Scared Stiff to see if they can improve on the geo set-up?

to answer your question vxr220, i ordered my vxr on 10th july, the sales man rang up and there was only one car left on the system. after getting conformation of the order the monday :jump: he told me that i had the last one no. 65.. although i have not had any paper work through yet confirming i am no.65. so i suppose i will have to wait until this comes through before i can confirm it.

Ive recieved the reg document, and on it , it says VX220 Turbo,so isnt it right to insure the car by what it says on the reg doc??? Also im in for a VXR plate, once I can find out the number the car is. Now can I send this reg doc back to DVLA saying I do not want this number but this one, why should I have to pay twice?????? After all I have not recieved the car yet!!! :o

If the car is already registered with an 04 plate then all you have to do is pay the £250 (INCLUDING £80 transfer fee) to the DVLA (search at www.dvlaregistrations.co.uk) and then take the V5, V750 (DVLA Reg Retention document) & TAX disc along to your local DVLA office (Not many around, mine's Nottingham or Brum) and they will process for you, give you a new TAX disc & take your V5 for processing & post it back in a couple of weeks. The only EXTRA cost will be the £15ish for the physical plates.

With the VXR, you might be able to get the TAX disc from your dealer and change it so he won't have to make the old plates, just your ___VXR one B)

If you have to change once you have the car, remember in these post 9/11 times it's easier to take the V750 to a Plate maker (Plus Photo Driving Licence or Pasport, etc) and get the plates made FIRST as once you walk out of the DVLA office you are supposed to fit the new plates ASAP. Also take a good book to the DVLA office - I waited almost an hour to change my wife's car

Cheers, Ian

PS I have just checked and there are 493 _ ___ VXR plates form A9 to T999 and even T80 VXR B) all for just £250 - What are you waiting for ?

The factory apeared to be working at it's normal pace ;) when my wife & I walked through when collecting our car last Friday (and the car park didn't have many spaces) so I doubt last week was a 'shutdown'

Problems can arise as your dealer will deal with Neil or Stu (Busy men who can be elusive ;) ) who then deal with Lotus so there is plenty of scope for delays runing into several days ! plus the extra complication of the insure & reg process.

All I can say is, it WILL be worth the wait :)

Cheers, Ian
