i'm no expert on VX's like vocky or others on here, but i've had both 2.2 out & 2.0T in on the VX and done a few other engine in/out jobs and always followed one rule - do as little as possible bent over the car. remove the bare minimum in order to get the engine & box out & strip it on the bench, on a stand, on the floor etc what ever way its much easier than doing it while its all still in the car. thumbsup

That's great, the only bits that I haven't removed before are the starter, the oil pipe into the block and the feed to the oil cooler.

starter is just two bolts, oil pipe is 24mm or so, the hardest part to remove will probably be the oil filter / oil cooler adaptor - I use massive plumbers pliers - 24" version

the metal clip is the part I'm talking about, is there an incorrect way of fitting that may cause my oil pressure to get too high forcing oil through the breather causing my smoke at 6k revs? I remember struggling a bit when fitting it to my new engine and may have accidentally adjusted the tension on it..

it's designed to block the oilway, so worst case it doesn't and the oil cooler won't work

it is a git to fit, long nosed pliers help thumbsup

Strange, I took one out and replaced one with my fingers on an old block I thought.

:yeahthat:

Always better to undo a few extra bolts but save a load of time. And probably sweat when joining the engine and box back up again

The plan will be some of the clam off tomorrow, the rest off and engine out on saturday. Sunday afternoon assembling the replacement engine then new engine in whenever your flywheel turns up vocky :P

that sounds like a man that's had the excellent experience of laying on your back while trying to mate up a box to the engine in the car. box resting on your chest, getting a gob full of oil, trying to line it up & get the bolts in (which you can't find no more because you've effin laid on them!!) & wishing you had the strength of superman & 4 arms! lol

sorry to go on about this but i'm confused and just need to understand how this part works. How does blocking the oil way allow the oil cooler to work? Is this then supposed to open at some point hence it having a spring in it's design? If it isn't fitted quite right could there be any kind of excessive oil pressure?

I really apreciate the help you've given me so far and it would be great if you could iron this part out for me so that I know if i need to somehow re-check the fitment of this part.

Also begs the question what I do with 3 of them! Whether I sell them as is, break them, refresh them as standard or stick Wiseco Pistons/Rods in all of them, balance shaft delete and sell them as strong drop in new engines?

on a vectra / astra / zafira the oil comes from the oil pump up to the oil filter, half way between them is the oil pressure sensor (block take off point).

on a vx220 the oil pressure sender is not fitted into the block take off point, instead a pipe fitting is installed. The 'special vx220 thingy' blocks off the original oilway so that the oil diverts and goes through the oil cooler (via the block take off pipe fitting), it returns to the engine via the alloy adaptor (which the vectra / astra / zafira don't have), the oil pressure sender is also mounted on this alloy adaptor.

We've taken out the single bolt on the tabbed section but they really don't want to move. Even taking out the central bolt, putting in a larger one and suspending the whole weight of the block on it isn't enough to pull them out, any ideas???

brill, cheers for this! I'm due an oil change soon so I'll have a mess and see what I can see. If there is a wrong way round to fit it then I probably have!
