Cheeky, the Nortech manifold is by no means a standard OEM part. I specified what I wanted to Jay and he made it up appropriately. I have yet to prove that there is room for the turbo beween the block and bulkhead, but I have confidence that it will all fit.

Death of an engine.... write up is towards the bottom of HERE

I feel gutted to be honest  , all because of a water pump bearing failure. It was such a great engine too, didn't burn any oil, smoooth, powerfull, reliable (until the pump failure!), and reved like a little angel. It's a shame as I had hoped to sell it on as a going concern to anyone who wanted a reliable 300 BHP unit. However, now that I've discovered the valves are pooped, I will have to strip it apart and sell the parts on separately.

Let me know if anyone wants a block, head (with bent inlet valves), crank, balancer shaft delete parts, rods, oil cooler, cams, tappet set, etc etc.

I suspect it's going to be too noisy to be allowed on a UK track, but hope to do a static sound test once the engine is run in just to be sure. I might come up to the National this year anyway (as a spectator) even if the car is too noisy. I'm picking the engine up this weekend :)

Why would it be too noisy with a rotary muffler? Mine is quiet as a mouse :-)

I think my exhaust has always been rather noisy anyway as I have a rather small straight through silencer. It will be interesting to see how much more/less noise the new turbo allows to pass. Maybe it will be quieter, with the number of changes to so many parts (particularily the 'breathing' parts), who knows !

Drove over to Hertfordshire today and picked up the engine from Steve today. Once home, I started dressing it before I was summoned in for diner!

Thanks Scott, yea my back and foot are a lot better now, though 3 hours bending over the engine yesterday has made them ache a fair bit today. I see you are temped to buy another VX - when did you get your license back ?

Don't worry Steve, the cams and indeed the whole engine is well lubed and greased up. The oil filter has been packed with grease and primed with oil to stop it cavitating on initial turn over. I will be using cheapy mineral oil for the first 250 miles, then another load of cheapy for 750 miles, and then finally will use the expensive stuff on it.

Yea, the cams are solid lifter profile with 10.5 mm of lift on the inlet and 10mm on the exhaust (I think (am still waiting for the full precise spec from Piper) - I think thats the same amount of lift that Klassen uses on his 650 BHP monster.

I have swapped quite a few parts over to the new block this morning with more updated pics and writeup HERE (you may need to press CTRL-F5 to see the refreshed images).

With the crank breather pipe. might be easier to cut the pipe down to about half then use some flexible hose routed away from the manifold in the middle and protected with some heat sleaving

Yea, I may well do this, buy a couple of 45 degree bends (or a single 90 degree one and chop it in half to save cash as I am feeling rather poor ATM ;) ). The pipe only has to deal will very minor pressure differences, so it's not like its gotta be well designed. I think it's 19mm ID and I need to buy a load of this bore for the additional job of routing my Bailey dump valve back into the 4 inch inlet tract. I will deffo have to wrap it or make a little heat shield for it, as this pipe gets roasted even with a 200 BHP OEM setup.

5 hours more in the garage and the manifold and turbo are on. However I encountered a couple of problems which required quite a bit of grinding and palarvour...
