Just caught myself laughing out loud as I put 2 rather greasy/oil parts into the empty dishwasher so they can be cleaned next time the g/f switches it on. I can't wait to hear her surprise when she opens it to load it up !

Quality over quantity ;)

Can't wait to hear from Chris, though the poor guy has a hell of lot to do before the car can even be put on the dyno for its first pull....

Has anyone got a telephone number for Matt Bentley BTW as I can't find it on his Facebook page.

I got an email from Chris earlier today. Apparently he put the car on the rollers yesterday prior to starting any work, just to see what the old Klassen map was up to.

On the first pull it made 553 BHP with 30 PSI of boost. Bearing mind on the road I sometimes saw 33 PSI of boost it's no wonder the car was scary to drive.

The increase from 485 BHP to 553 BHP is simply due to 3 things that cost me less than £150:

1) my home made bird box

2) 4" home made inlet pipework

3) reversing the bypass valve.

Others can hopefully draw a conclusion from that, even on a stage 2, 3 or 4 car, improving inlet breathing and air-box will help.

According to the Garrett compressor graph for the GTX3071 the turbo should easily be able to manage a 3:1 pressure ratio, so with the new ECU + map it could make 40 PSI of boost and threaten Klassen's VX ;)  However I have given Chris instructions to stay well under this.

Am really looking forward to getting it back now, with super smooth delivery and ability to manipulate it all inside the cabin with my laptop.

Thanks Lee, you can see why I didn't want to go on track at Pembrey now, I might have rammed into the back of some other slow moving car, you must have suffered from being held up by slow traffic yourself I expect ;)

Bearing in mind I (very stupidly) had the wastegate incorrectly plumbed in at that time (such that it never opened), the boost was running away to insane levels. This also explains the mystery cutouts the ECU did on several occasions (which I had to remedy by pulling fuse 8). I guess it detected the crazy over-boost and stopped the car from boosting at all (as it should).

Will the TC be wired with the new ECU ? That would be the most interesting thing, likely way more powerful than before and way more driveable ! :)

Yep, with various strategies for soft/medium/hard cut; by keeping the ETB the ECU can simply over-rule my right foot and close the TB to give a soft cut.

Also I will have adjustable gear dependant boost settings, which is effectively pre-emptive TC.

 I've rarely read anything more absurd. Pembrey isn't a power track. Infact you'd have probably got in the way of a lot of cars which were cornering faster, taking less long to access power and were less compromised in set-up My view is that you've got some sort of complex about being slower than other cars, which by the was is also absurd since a) it doesnt matter and b ) other dependancies such as driver experience and talent make more of a diffence. Its a nice science project, that is a lot of power thumbsup Its completely unnecessary (infact it's probably less fun than a 300hp car) for the road though unless you're an SLJ (in which case you don't need the silly wing etc)

Mine was a genuine question Nev, don't get so protective. I would like to see what your car can do on track. It's had a serious amount of cash thrown at it, decisions made and justified etc. So, no I wasn't taking the p*ss, I do want to see it on track. I can't imagine for one minute that it can be used properly on the road.

Ah, ok then.

Well, I had hoped to get out at the National this year, but thought it prudent not to the end, due to the boost and vibration issue. The way the torque was coming in if you pressed the accelerator hard was beyond most peoples imagination (including my own) and once the red mist descended I was concerned I would either ram it up someone's arse or spin off! Hopefully I will come to next year's National though. When I went to Castle Coombe a few weeks ago the sound test came in at 106 dB, which also needs addressing or I am limited to a very few tracks.

I still have some other things I want to address, namely wishbone/uprights/brakes, particularly at the front before I'd consider the car was "complete". Ideally I want to be able to drop the front down to around 7 CM off the deck, as this is where I found the splitter made a MASSIVE difference.

It is hard to exploit the car on the road for sure, but I still enjoy it immensely even if just chugging around at 40 MPH on country lanes. I get a lot of satisfaction simply from sitting in the car knowing how it all works when I change gear and press the brakes/accelerator etc. I don't feel a huge compunction to pay quite a lot of money just to drive round a track for a few hours, though I am not against the idea either, as clearly the car could be used closer to it's max capabilities.

While its good to see a continued path of development on the engine and the learning process that involves , its some of the other aspects that concerns me.

To be honest, the sort of unwise road speeds (licence losing) you need before any aero makes a difference and even then it would still be a long way from overcoming the big compromises in the setup to get a very low ride height to work , plus the daft idea that a very low ride height on UK roads is anyway.

I am just worried about where this is ultimately going to end up.
