Hi Nev When you connect your lap top and run WARI screens F2 and F11 are useful for monitoring what's going on. Dave

Thanks Dave, I am tempted to go into the garage now and hook the laptop up, but it's a skool night and I'd be too knackered tomorrow :( Also the neighbours would likely (and understandably) complain.

You can look at loads of parameters without running the engine. I would save the map when you first connect!! Dave

@Steve: I don't really have an ignition strategy, it's what I've paid Chris for :) His mission/spec was to smooth out the torque spike as much as possible when the turbo boosts up, so I expect he uses quite a few tricks including retarding the ignition.

@Dave: Yes, emminently sensible, I will do this first and take a backup onto my memory key.

Well I've done a few short sorties out in Nipper, only a total of 10 miles so far, but all seems good. Unfortunately I am rock climbing and surfing this weekend, so wont be able to drive him any more, maddening as all I want to do is wait for the roads to clear and give him a mild boots up a few open roads. I got back into my Ford Focus after and nearly put the clutch peddle through the floor, the difference in driving ergonomics between the two is just immense. I have tried getting my laptop to talk to the ECU, but failed to connect the COM port up. I expect I will need some help on how to set this up... Dave ?!

you're not using a Bluetooth adaptor are you?

They're right painful even when you know what you're doing :D

Nope, just a USB cable into the female hole of the ECU, Bluetooth would just be another hurdle no doubt.

Did Chris not give you the setup sheet? Probably in your ecu box.

  • Download and install software from Adaptronic website
  • Connect ecu to laptop via usb and have ignition on
  • Open device manager
  • Find where it says Adaptronic select ecu. Might be under other devices, unknown devices or universal serial bus controllers.
  • Right click on Adaptronic select ecu and select update driver.
  • Window for hardware wizard pops up. Click the no not at this time option for windows asking if it can connect to windows update to search for software. Click next.
  • Select install from specific location. Click next
  • Click the box to browse specific location. Browse in program files for adaptronic engine management wari software.
  • Click next and the driver will install.

Thx for typing all that Geroge, I'll give that a go. He didn't get to see me at the end of the dyno sessions, as the car was picked up by Jimmy. I still have to drive up there for some final tweaks and to get the TC working.

Went for a 50 mile semi blast last night, wowzers, after 6 months of trundling about in my TDi I'd forgotten what it's like to drive.

210 miles now, oil changed, taking RPM up to 6000 so far and giving it some moderate beans. The progressive nature of the power coming is great, giving a good deal more confidence of not having a spin out. I think my tyres will prefer this setup too, which will be no small financial saving! Have managed to setup the laptop to connect to the ECU (thanks George) and have saved the map and inspected it. It's surprising how simple it is really when clearly laid out in the various WARI screens. Have also logged a couple of sessions just for my own curiosity.

Hi Nev sorry to hear about your failure, but glad to see your cracking on with a new engine build and your certainly in safe hands with Chris @ EFI parts all I've heard is good reviews and he has a lot of high power vauxhalls and Hondas under his belt. Car will drive so much nicer on the aftermarket with the features you have so will be able to get that power down better.

Thanks Adam, it's only on the minimum power setting at the moment (there is a dash mounted switch to toggle this). In this mode the max boost I am seeing about 10 PSI, so the engine is only making about 300 or 325 BHP at a guess which helps make it feel more sedate and smooth. I have yet to return to Chris's so he can finish the high power map, this will take boost up to about 30 PSI, so it will be somewhat more lively, though I can lower this in the cabin with the laptop.

Still decent power then, if I was you I'd keep it about the drive ability rather than outright power, I found that 400ish was plenty in the Corsa any more just made it less usable and harder to drive flat out on track. Handy having it switchable though, that's my next stage once the apexi avcr is wired in as the Omex boost control doesn't allow boost in gear and the boost vs tps isn't as acurite as I'd like

@Steve: Yes the setup is MAF-less now (one of minor advantages), as I am not keen on them for various reasons. Wastegate control is by solenoid (ie ECU). @Adam: Well, my current setting is the least I can get out of the car. With in gear boost control setup on the other switch setting I can regulate power in any gear I fancy between 300 and 550 BHP, so there is plenty of scope to set the car up for whatever circumstance. I agree with you, 400 to 450 BHP is the sweet spot in a VX I think (for the road anyway), so long as its dry and reasonable quality tarmac.

Ah that's sounds like a ideal set up then should make it much more drive able
