No burnouts or dragstrips, just zippy road driving. Honestly, it's blooming unrealistic for a tyre manufacturer to make road legal tyres with so little life expectancy. They really should at least put another 4mm of tread on the tyre IMO.

Spent 2.5 hours this evening wiring up the auxillary 12v water pump to a switch on my dash. Fired it up and though I can hear it running fine, it doesn't visibly seem to push or pull water into the header tank. The objective of doing this is so that I can manually operate the switch when I park the car up let it (in theory) keep the water flowing round the block to stop heat soak. Has anyone ever seen/heard of this pump ever working (I sure didn't when I was on the stock ECU)? Does it actually help? My last hope is to toggle the terminal polarity, maybe that will have an effect (push instead of pulling the water).

Out of interest... how does the ECU trigger it? Does it just give a ground signal like for the fan, or have you had to just run to a 12v signal?

On my car the ECU is eliminated from the circuit, I've wired it up purely to be manual for now. On normal OEM ECUs, the pump is (in my understanding) triggered to activate after engine switch off if the water temp is > some threshold.

Duh... forgot you'd gone standalone :) Was just wondering... as I have a fan override, and it would be nice to get it running in conjunction with the pump so it had some use when the engine is off :)

I heard the auxiliary pump on mine working after hot track sessions years ago. Pretty sure it ran for 5-10 minutes after switching the engine off when the temps were well over 100. I did not hear it often, but on the odd occasion when the water temperature continued to climb while leaving the car idling in the paddock to 'cool down' and I switched off before it got too hot I'd hear it running.

i run something simliar in my 7, it does not push into the header tank but i can hear the water running round the system so im sure it works

i like you just leave it for 10-15 mintues when ive turned the engine off, you can get timer relays to be fair that might be a better option

If you want to have a manual switch to turn the aux water pump on manually, it would mean the ECU would then not have control of it. If you'd like to do this let me know. It only casts about £3 for the EV1 plug and a few wires, solder, switch and a relay. they hard part is finding a permanent live in the loom to run the thing.

the aux pump has it own relay K82 , so can you just pull the relay leg to ground with a switch , violet+orange wire looks a good one to try. Brown+violet is the +ve relay switched feed to pump, taken from FR3 fuse 7.5A

Just looked at the diagram again and can't see how I missed it the first time... Z20LET to the relay... expect it will be in the same loom as my fan override (centre console)  Just need to consider whether to ground through my fan override switch or whether there would be any reason to operate them independently?

When you find out what wire it is, let me know please and I'll take my current wiring out, as it would be simpler/better to keep the old circuit functioning. I have 2 mystery relays on my bulkhead (all my relays are now in the cabin after being move), I suspect it is one of them.

Sizten... is the +ve to the relay a permanent live like the fan, or only live with the ignition?  thumbsup

Cheers

I got my circuit tester out for my wiring, and the 2 relays that are physically together (one of which I suspect is the official relay for the pump) are both fed a permanent live.
