18" 285x30 and 18" 245x35. Lets see if they are as sticky as the V70s.

When I went out this morning, for the second occasion in about 3 days I found the car bouncing out of dip like a tennis ball. It was quite unnerving and felt like it flung me 1 or 2 feet rightwards. So I've got under the car and clicked up the Nitrons a fair bit, fronts are now 10 clicks from max and rears are 7 clicks from max. Am gonna go out later this evening once the traffic dies off to try it out.

Can anyone tell me whether the vertical hole in the steering arm that the ball joint goes though is tapered or parallel please?

Pretty sure it's tapered.

In fact yes they are. All 8 ball joints are the same and I stared at the rear ones for long enough while machining them down.

Hmmm this info scuppers my plan, I guess the tapering is to ensure sheer forces are spread, so it's wouldn't be wise of me to drill out the hole that the track rod arm ball joint goes through. Bugger. :(

you sure it was because of because of the dampers or is it not just down to bump steer.

what spring rates are you running?

I think you will end up buying the arms, i bought them and you know how tight I am

...........

When it gets wet/cold I intend to strip the front suspension off and look at it from first principles. It might be possible to swap the OS/NS OEM steering arms from one side of the car to the other (thus inverting them) and then the tapered ball joint would point down, such that the arms would union underneath the steering arms rather than ontop of the steering arm. That way they will naturally become way more horizontal, but not necessarily correctly angled as there wouldn't be any adjustment possbilities I think. If this doesn't look feasilbe, I'll have to splash out on the EP kit.

Read up here: http://www.vx220.org...-bumpsteer-wtf/

Swapping both arms and inverting the steering joints will be way to much change and throwing the bump steer curve way off in the wrong way. As Alex found out you're talking mm's of adjustment with big changes.in bumpsteer...

Wow, thats a good read, I see my first few ground up thoughts were covered by him last year. However, the thread seems to have gone mysteriously quiet for 6 months, without any consludions.

The new rubber is well worn in after a 2 hour early morning blast. Had a bit of a paddy with the car being too skittish after turning up the Nitrons so much the other day, so had to crawl around under the car in a layby to wind them back down. When I was talking to Mat Bentley the other day he thought it likely that I had the Hoffmans valve setup, which apparently is considerably more resistive and make my local country roads somewhat jiggly beyond 50% clicks. Had quite a few open spaces (the advantage of setting off nice and early) and really cranked the engine up over 7000 RPM a fair bit. The power is relentless all the way to 8000 RPM, where normal cars start dying off at x,000 RPM this just keeps getting noticeably stronger and stronger.

Bloody hell, I seem to have binned the original OEM brackets that the front coilovers bolt into. They are mounted onto the chassis with 2 bolts. Does anyone have an OEM pair of these brackets for sale please?

The one in the pic is a raised one that somebody sells (can't remember who), what I need are the OEM ones which are lower/shorter please, as I don't have enough droop any more.

Are the OEM ones narrower too so will your nitrons still fit?

I can't remember Mark, I think they are roughly the same width, so I presume the Nitrons will fit seeing as so many people have them fitted to the OEM brackets.

It may be just the wider 46's or something that need the wider ones then. Are those ones you have definitely lower set than OEM?

The picture shows a raised top mount point for the Nitron. At least, that's what I remember when I swapped them out.
