I think exactly the same thing about Ferraris or any supercar - I've spent the last two years or so working on the McLaren P1 and it's a fantastic piece of engineering but I don't think anyone would say its in anyway usable on the road - every test of the car is done on track because that's the only place it's abilities can be tested.

What track driving does do though is expose flaws which are impossible to pick up on the road. I remember going to le Mans in 2011 with a recently refreshed car and it was fucking awful and yet I thought it was great on the road. The braking was shit, the suspension wasn't set-up right, the following year having sorted all those things, it ran hotter than i would like so that got fixed.

My suspicion and this is not a dig (even though my posts towards Nev often are :P) is that Nev's car would be deeply disappointing on track and thats simply because it has never been tested there before. It would reveal flaws with aero with under trays missing, likely have heat related issues dues to power output, the large wheels would probably reveal concerns etc etc. All fixable but only if you know they are there which the road just won't reveal.

If you never intend on driving on track then its of course perfectly fine to live with a car as it it. arguably some cars are made worse on the road due to fixes made from those revelations from track exposure.

James is 100% correct, had my vx as a road car for almost 9 years and for those 9 years I never had one issue, thought the car was perfect. Did my first trackday at the back end of last year and the car progressively fell apart as the day went on  I'm now setting about fixing these issues. It's all about intended use and I think Nev has a good idea of how he likes to use it and what he wants from the car. If that changes then Nev can change the car thumbsup

I've been a bit busy with climbing and karate recently, but had Sunday off, so went for a tootle round the Welsh hills. Stopped off at a roadside café where loads of bikers hang out, got talking to them and one of them has a VX220 NA, name of SteveO on here I think. Also saw a Nissan GTR pull away sharpish, very impressive.

Highlights of the trip were chopping an apple in half with the splitter, leaving some bikers behind (who were really trying to overtake initially) and meeting a fellow random VXer... oh and also 170 miles of stunning scenery and traffic free-ish roads with the top down - glorious.

During the last few drives I could hear a bit of exhaust "pulse", indicating a minor leak, so I've tightened up a few manifold bolts and the 4 main GT3 turbo inlet flange bolts which stretch over time. This has fixed the noise and apart from this little niggle the car has been going like a rocket.

After ringing Infinity Exhausts twice and driving round there twice to let them inspect the car, they have completely failed to ever come back to me with a quote. Typical crap automotive service response :( So instead, today I've driven over to another place near Bristol to get a quote for a new backbox and a change of position of a flexi. Maybe they will give me a 1/2 reasonable quote and work on the car to try and get the noise down. If not I will have to buy a welder and do it myself as it really needs doing.

This evening I decided to take the splitter off to see if it made any difference. Went for a drive at night, so not able to go too fast, it has made the car feel slightly lighter, but I think the extra 1cm of clearance offsets the nominal down-force it used to make. The second exhaust place that I recently went to in Nipper (and have since emailed twice and rung once) have failed to provide a quote. Sheesh. :(

Maybe try and contact Neil Garner (only up the road) and see if he manufactures exhausts, or if not, who he uses?
