wont it look a bit weird without the splitter though? Obv its understandable if it isnt doing a lot that theres not need for it but it does look awesome

I prefer it without the splitter TBH, though it did do a bit to pull the front of the car down. The problem with it was that it doesn't really function fully until about 7 or 8 cm off the tarmac and that is too low for road use, hence I have eliminated it. If I ever took it on a track (if I had the time + motivation) I could stick it back on, lower the front down to 7 CM and adjust the toe in and re-gain the immense down force I got from my previous experimentation. I still remember how remarkable and completely planted the car felt with it at that height.

Maybe try and contact Neil Garner (only up the road) and see if he manufactures exhausts, or if not, who he uses?

Hmm, that might be a good idea, though I don't think they had a TIG welder there 5 years ago when I last went. I think they've expanded a lot since then, so it might be worth giving them a tinkle.

Take the big wing off and go for a drive to balance things out a touch, see how it feels.

Nev ive never commented on your thread and fair play to what you've done but your comment about your splitter and you noticing it missing after you took it off and you only drove it on the road!!!

From what i know about downforce you only really notice it above a certain mph, which people say to be 100mph plus!!!!!!!!!!

I've been noticing a slight knock from the OSF suspension when dropping over small bumps, so took the wheel, brake caliper and brake disc off. 1 minute later with some wiggling about it became clear that the M12 nyloc nut on the lower ball joint had undone itself by about 4mm. I took the nut off went to Screwfix, but of course they didn't have one - it has some sort of fine pitch (either 1.5 or 1.25) so I've had to buy both off eBay to test/fit. Looking at the nut, the nylon on it was badly perished, perhaps partly from age and partly from me un/screwing it few time this summer whilst adjusting my geo. This is something for other owners to be aware of, maybe worth mentioning it to your MOT guy next time and get him to double check both sides as it is a safety critical thing.

You should always replace nyloc nuts with new ones if you have to refit.

A bit, though if you are an alert/aware driver I think you can notice 50% of this sort of thing before it becomes an issue. Anyway the new nuts have arrived and I've just replaced the dodgy one. Will probably replace the one on the other wheel next time I am working around it. Am looking forward to testing it with a little "squirt and pray" action tonight if the rain holds off.

The ball joint threads looked ok to me and the new nut tightened up nicely. I didn't actually get out in the car the other night due to knackeredness from work, maybe tonight or tomorrow morning.

Managed to get out today after work (3.00pm+) and gave it a bit of a squirt, things seem fine now. The front seems a little less reactive to camber changes (which is pleasant!).

I forgot to mention, I've stuck a lock nut on the top of ball-joint nylocks, so they can't possibly undo themselves now. Also checked all my other bolts on both sides of the front (for the 3rd time since my geo changes) just to stop paranoia creaping into my head !

On Sunday, it managed to stop raining for a few hours and went for a 140 mile drive to test my new "heater mod".

Posted Image

The "heater" is actually a large flap of metal on a hinge that is mounted on the bulkhead that I can open to varying amounts. Due to the high pressure zone in the engine bay and the low pressure zone in the cabin, this means that roasting hot air can enter the cabin in huge volumes.

The amount of air hot that enters the cabin is humungous and it is no exaduration to say you can drive round in the cold with the roof off and be sitting in a t-shirt sweating inside. Yesterdays test sucked in fair amount of leaves and dust, so I have installed a fine mesh over the hole which should stop 90% of it entering the cabin. The temp in the cabin nicely distributed as well, keeping my legs warm too.

Posted Image

I have also received my new 3.5" flexi joint and v-band clamp. If this fits I intend to weld it into the existing exhaust pipe to give more flex for when the engine twists about. These parts are pretty damned heavy and I am not 100% sure it will fit...

Does that not mean you get: 1) increased fumes in cabin? 2) Less fire protection in event of an engine bay fire?

I quite like the smells, as it all adds to the visceral experience, however I wouldn't be keen on catching fire! I can lock the flap shut in summer or if I think there may be an increased fire risk for some reason.
