Itll be interesting to see how these brakes turn out Nev.... ive decided to go for a set of alpha romeo 159 brera brembos on the front of mine, mostly for ease of fitment and price... picked up a decent set on fleabay for 120 :/ hopefully this will help a lot when I get round to fitting them..:) Oh and btw, car looks awsome :)

I did spend about an hour or more reading your blog and very impressive must be ridiculously fast! Good on ya only wish I knew my my way round my tool kit, as the cost of parts isn't the problem its the bloody labour cost that kills me

I hope they turn out good, as I have driven the 159 Ti with the Brembo and they was disappointing Must be much better on a light weight car mind you

They are "side" mounted calipers right? (instead of top mounted like ours). How is this going to be easy on fitment?

Sorry for the offtopic.

Thanks Mike, nice of you to say so.

I'm sure the Alfa calipers will be highly similar to the Porsche ones. I feel a bit stupid having paid £300 for a pair (with good pads admittedly).

When's the (required) big brake project starting Nev?... I look forward to seeing this progress!! If you ever need a hand give me a shout. I'm quite handy with the spanners etc and always happy to help.

I looked into these same radial mount Alfa calipers but because the attaching cap bolts are not recessed like they are on the Porsche calipers they would interfere with the inner rims of my 16" front wheels while using 330mm rotors. They might well squeeze under 17"s or indeed Nevs 18"s with his proposed 350mm rotors.

Thanks dude, but at my rate of progress we'd probably only end up doing 2 minutes of work before drinking tea and gossiping like women ! LOL If I can get my act together, I am hoping to spend some time with Josh on this soonish. It's funny though, after doing 1800 miles of driving on my ski trip in my Ford Focus, I drove Nipper the other night and to my surprise I thought the brakes in him were quite good (in comparison). Mind you after a couple of hair raising incidents last summer whist driving Nipper, it would be best to plod on with this brake project, uprating them could possibly make them life savers one day.

I have a super accurate race technologies DL1 , sustained braking G , could even wire in a brake load cell on the pedal to measure effort.

Screengrab from the national at Anglesey 2009 , -1.2g braking

Looks nice, but I'm not likely to buy a load of electronics to measure it TBH. When I used an "app" on my phone it measured -1.4g braking last time from approx. 70 MPH. I will likely do this again to see what (if any improvement) there is. Also, another test will be to see if I can lock the wheels out at higher speeds.

the solid state sensors in new phones are I am sure just as accurate these days, so that would be okay

Well, today we (JoshuaUXB and I) kicked off my big brake project. We used a piece of drainpipe and some wooden cutouts to make a full replica of the setup. We even milled the wooden rotor and smaller hub mounting facia such that we could take accurate measurements of how deep to make the bells and inspect for fitment/clearance. There was at least 1" of calliper clearance to the wheels, in theory allowing for up to 400mm discs.

With great amazement (and luck) we have discovered that the Porsch calipers will fit the EliseParts hub carriers with some very simple spacers at the front. At the rear we will re-use his bracketry arrangement that he initially made for his own VX220 conversion.

The next step will be for me to order up some 28mm x 350mm rotors for all 4 corners and another pair of Brombo callipers.

Many thanks for course goes to Josh, without whom I wouldn't be able to even start the project with any certainty of completing it !

Has anyone got a spare rear hub carrier I could borrow/buy please, it will save me taking the car off the road to have one on the bench to make some fitment measurements?

I expect Josh and I may suggest how/what to buy for the entire process so it's a bit like a kit. But to be honest, I think it will be out of most people budget as it will likely be somewhere between £1600 and £2000 for all the parts for all 4 corners.
