As Spring is fast approaching I have been finding the current map a bit weedy in the improving road conditions. So I decided I better go up and visit Chris at EFI tuning, with the objective to finish the high power map and iron out a couple of gremlins. Chris is certainly a talented chap and knows the Adaptronic ECU inside out, the speed at which he remapped was great (even though I was pestering him with questions).

Anyway, it turns out that the "weedy" low power map (which I had been guessing was about 320 BHP) turned out to be making 463 BHP, the slowly creeping torque line had clearly deceived me.

For the big power map (with much more "meat" in the mid range) we decided to settle for 521 BHP, but the extra 150 ft/lb of torque from 4500 RPM will make this a Ferarri/Porsche/Lambo (and tyre!) killer.

I can toggle between the 2 maps with a switch on the dashboard (even whilst driving).

I have decided to set the max RPM to 7500 instead of the old 8000, simply for safety. This still leaves a 3500 RPM power band to stir the gearbox with.

We only needed 25 PSI to make 521 BHP, and with the turbo easily capable of pushing out another 10 PSI there is at least another 75 BHP untapped from the engine (probably more, but I simply don't want to know as I think 450 to 500 BHP is about right for Nippers current config. ).

Thanks for the comments guys. To be honest, the power of the low power map is so subtle that it doesn't really feel any more than a standard stage 4 map. I haven't really had a chance to fully test the higher power map yet as it was damp when I drove back yesterday and I was tired.

I went out in him tonight (after a preparatory "old man" snooze!). The map tweaks have deffo helped a lot, as an all round package he's driving the best I've ever known.

Some chap on a Ninja bike stopped at the lights after following the pops and bangs and flashes of exhaust light and kindly gave me the thumbs up. I then felt guilty mullering past him, by the time he turned up at the next set of lights he was clearly in a state of shock, poor lad.

On the less positive note, I think my Ford Focus has come to the end of his life. On the way back from work he started making some terrible noises from the top of the engine. Sounds like something drastic has failed in the cam/lifter/valvetrain area. :(

I did some fuel economy calcs the other day when I was trundling up the M6 at a steady 70 MPH, amazingly Nipper managed 30 MPG, better than I expected.

Just got some batteries for my digital scales, so I've weighed one of the Porsche callipers, it comes in at 3.66 Kg including a pair of new pads in there. Does anyone know how much an OEM AP 2 pot weighs (with or without pads) so I can compare?
