Be VERY careful when changing the door pins... push hard to hold all of the washers in place and remove and replace the door pin in one go without letting all the washers fall out! Talking from experience :)

Ooops, seems I've made an error in my write up previously, the discs are actually 330mm diameter (just thought I better mention this for clarity). I think I got confused with the Vectra VXR ones somehow.

I'm a bit confused, do you mean push the door pin into the car whilst unscrewing it? Where are the washers, on the inside of the bodywork or the outside? Excuse my ignorance, I haven't really looked at them yet.

Nr 40 to 46 are only held in place by the striker (inside the bodywork). Pull it, and all that crap falls behind sill/speakershelf.

Keep pressure on the sill near the striker pin entry to keep the crap in place, while putting in the uprated striker.

Quite normal.. The production dimension variations on the roll-over bars, chassis and doors themselves means that there can be huge differences between cars on the number of shims or even on different sides of one car.

Eg. On my own car there's a stack of shims on the left but none on the right.

They really are 'adjustment' shims just like the shims and spacers under the clams to get everything in the right position.

Bye, Arno.

After years of putting up with rattling doors I've finally splashed out £20 on some anti-rattle door pins - hoorah. Can't wait for them to arrive.

Small piece of advice.. Take some time to fit and adjust these. It's time well spent.

The new pins are bigger in all dimensions and pretty much fit snugly in all dimensions, so you may need to adjust the height and shimming to allow them to fit into the slots of the door locks smoothly where the original ones have some play.

Getting the correct height means the door doesn't get forced up or down by the pin, depth is how far the door needs to shut before it latches and the correct lenght means that the wide part of the pin does not impact the lock surround at the top or rub at the bottom.

Start with getting the lenght set up right with the shims as you need to remove and reinstall it each time for that.  This is the annoying bit..

Height and depth can be adjusted by not tightening it fully and bumping the pin around with a soft hammer (eg. plastic or hide) and tapping the pin in the direction you need to adjust it.

It usually take some tries and some step-by-step adjustments but when you get it right it works great.. It's just not a 5 minute job..

And then you notice that there's stuff rattling inside the doors like the glass on the rails ;)

Bye, Arno.

Quick easy fix how I did it.... Wrap one round of ductape around the pin and be done with it.

They aren't installed yet (only dummied up on the front). I've bought some lug mounted Porsche Cayenne calipers for the rears, hopefully they will fit with an adjustable adaptor bracket that Josh has kindly given me.

Got home today to a fully washed and polished Nipper (the first time in 3 years!), courtesy of my very kind girlfriend as I have no patience for such things.

You can't actually see it in the pics, but there are hundreds of insects and chips all over the place, drilled into the paintwork beyond redemption.

I have a photo-shoot with him tomorrow for a mag.

The camera man came today and we randomly chose the front gateway of a farm for the photo-shoot. 30 minutes into it, the owner drove out and wound his window down - he only turned out to be the old MD of Farbio cars - thankfully he wasn't annoyed by using his farm for our impromptu photoshoot. It seems by chance that we chose the driveway to their carbon fibre clam factory !

On the negative side, the T3 exhaust gasket leak is getting bad now (super noisy + smelly), I really need to sort it before next weekend sortie into deepest Wales at dawn.

Nope old bean, its a Mamba (rive boat) and the yellow one is a Wavesport Ace (surfing boat).

Gonna tackle the burnt out T3 gasket tonight hopefully. Probably several hours work just to replace a crap 1 mm thick piece of metal :(

Job done, 2.25 hours. The T3 gasket only had approx. 0.25 mm compressed/burnt out of it, but was making a hell of a racket, and most probably slowing spool up slightly.

I have binned the gasket and decided to mate the exhaust manifold flange directly with turbo flange (ie no gasket between any more and full flange to flange tightness - fnaar).
