Of course if I did post it to him, it might mysteriously "disappear" once in his hands and then he'd suddenly become "hard to get hold of" and it would probably take a court case to get him to replace it under the warrantee. Also, in this situation I would then not even have the manifold in my hands to put back on to limp the car to an exhaust place to have a new one fitted to a modified downpipe - a situation I don't want to find myself in. Basically we've all unfortunately met these people who don't honour their guarantees and throw as many hurdles for you jump over just to get them to do the right thing.

Anyway, DO NOT BUY FROM NORTECH PERFORMANCE.

Sad and angry Nev.

Bit harsh Nev when two pages ago you were singing their praises.

So called motorsport use (which is an almost meaningless statement) would be a harder environment for it, yet it can't cope with normal road use. ie if it cant cope with road use heat, then it would also fail with "motorsport" use heat. In other words both would have made it fail.   Anyway, I'm not going to argue the toss with you people, some of you have nasty chips on your shoulders and always react with negativity and lack of logic. What counts for me anyway is that the matter is in hand.

Of course motorsport use only isn't a meaningless statement. It means only use it for motorsport. It's not a hard concept to grasp. Motorsport, usually meaning relatively short periods of extreme use not longer periods of less extreme use as in road use. No point in getting the hump with other people and chucking your toys out of your pram. You were the one who chose to use it in the wrong manner.

my personal take on 'Motorsport use only' is that it means that is was designed for race use - thus should be removed and inspected after each race, so basically sod off if it breaks :(

Even if I stripped it down and inspected it every time I drove it (which is wholely unrealistic) it wouldn't change the fact that it still broke along a manufacturing weld (i.e. a manufacturing fault).

Some of you seem to be completely missing the key points. It was warranted, it broke, it should be fixed/replaced.

I am with you on this Nev, but the old saying goes 'warranties are not worth the paper they are written on'

Sadly, lack of culpability and any sort of ability for customers to easily and quickly redress with these people means they get away with it. However, in the long run I think word gets out and people stop buying from them. I went and checked on MIGWEB yesterday, and realise quite a lot people have had a bad response from him.

This is why place like Pro-Alloy are great, they actually care. People respond positively to them when they actually get meaningful and positive customer response.

I heard from a few people in the past they thought he was great - this was when I bought the thing approx 6 years ago. Developments in the last few days in this instance shows that he has no desire to uphold the warantee. Hence I have changed my mind based on the actual bad experience I've had - not so hard to understand someone changing their mind based is it?

It's important to eek these bad eggs out IMO, and warn other potential buyers. If you think that is harsh of me, I disagree.

Read through all of this and I wish you luck with your crusade against them.

The only thing that really stood out for me since you first mentioned it was the erroneous spelling of 'warranty'. Maybe I have autism.

Got the stuck bolt out, pre-heated the weld + flange to red with blow torches to try and de-stress it and then skimmed the flange.

I don't have huge hopes to the repair, if it cracks on the flange again the intention is to approach the problem in a different way next time. Fingers crossed.

Here are the pics before and after the flange was skimmed:

Feeling ill with man flue ATM, will stick it back in the car when I feel better. Will try and heat cycle it mildly a few times in the hope the metal can de-stress from the welding.

Can't wait to go brmm brmm again, it's been off the road for 2 nearly weeks now :(

Glad you got that out Nev - still working on my lambda sensor! How long did you apply your blowtorch?

Didn't use heat on the stuck bolt if that's what you mean, it was drilled out in the end as the bolt extractors would not budge it due to heat/corrosion probably.

If you can't get any purchase on the lambda, it sounds like you might need to weld some "handles" onto it and then twist it off, or some other sneaky approach. Which lamda is it, front or back? If you can get the exhaust off the car I could try welding some bar on to it for you.

Bolted the car back together and gave it a standing heat cycle up to operating temp in the garage, just to let the gaskets and clamps settle and cool into position and let the oil/grease burn off. Will take it out for a test this evening.

Happened to come across 2 slightly leaking water pipes (to and from the waste-gate), so have replaced these as well.

Took it for a test drive this morning, all seems good, although it unexpectedly sounds a bit different. In fact it seemed really slow but I think it was just an illusion caused by having my boost back at lower rpm and the power curve returning to a straight line again.

Only time will tell if the fix is good I suppose, not bad for £30, If I'd taken it to Courtenays or somewhere similar it would most likely have been around £2000 probably.

Took advantage of the weather today and went for a walk/run up Pen-y-Fan. Somehow the tops of the mountain were covered in cloud by the time I got there, though the rest of the countryside was sweltering.

The weather certainly moves in rather fast up there !

It caught me out last year on what appeared to bright warm day at the bottom, (granted I was walking slowly as apposed to running up), but I was a lot more fortunate than the 2 poor chaps that went up earlier in the year and were hit by lightening at the top.

Thanks guys, yes, belting round the country side with the roof off and the open road in front of you (and a nice walk is really lovely).
