Fair enough!Far too much money, when you can achieve the same thing for 5% of the cost with heat-wrap and eliminate the hassle of taking your car apart and sending off parts, and having it off the road.Have you thought about ceramic coating Nev?

Perhaps, but some seem to disintegrate very quickly. However, more expensive doesn't necessarily mean they last longer.I don't think it matters as they are all roughly the same, simple glass fibre weave, I doubt there is much variance. What does matter is that I actually put some on and how thickly I overlap it.
Which brand for the heat wrap did you go for?I've discovered that I need to re-wrap the exhaust manifold I think, as the smell of general "melting" from the bulkhead area (by the manifold/turbo/downpipe) is quite strong. Also, I had a case of making too much boost one day (ie > 10 PSI) when it was super hot, probably due to the vacuum pipes melting/softening and hence letting the pressure signal to the waste-gate escape. I know some people don't like heat wrap because it doesn't look blingy, but it sure does work well, so I've ordered up 10 metres of it. Apart from that the car is driving wonderfully, I went for a lovely Sunday morning drive the day before yesterday, just ambling along enjoying not being at full tilt, with the rising sun warming my face and wind in my (diminishing!) hair.

Yea, GF is only good long term if the temps stay below about 700 degrees. After that it tends to melt and become "hard ceramic" and break-up over a few years. But it's easy to replace (with the parts in situe) and far cheaper than ceramic coating IMO, basically a more viable solution.
Also, once you have ceramic coated something I think that re-welding it can become very hard, which in the case of my exhaust manifold (which I had to re-weld recently) would have incurred a huge cost to replace with a new item (probably around £1200) and lots of my time and patience (not to mention the car being off the road for an extended time). Instead, because I could still weld the manifold (as it was not coated) it cost me just £30.

Am I right in thinking the wrap must be evenly distributed otherwise you create heatspots?
Not really, its not an exact science, simply wrap as much as you think necessary. It's really quite good at reducing radiated heat. My manifold glows bright orange (when I'm booting it for more than about 10 secs), so the heat output off the manifold alone is immense, hence my realisation that I need to re-wrap it and can't get away without it.

What about ceramic coating & wrapping?
Cost, effort, off road time - please re-read above
I try to run my car on a sensible budget as best I can, and do what is necessary, rather than what is possible. Then I can spend the saved money + time on petrol and driving.

Phew, after barely driving him for the last few weeks due to being away so much it was great fun this evening when I crept out for a quicky.
I've been a bit busy on holidays (coastal walking, beaches & rock climbing) around the UK, these are some pics of Cornwall the other day:
Praa Sands:
Nudy beach near Porthcurnow (with the g/f):
Helford estuary:
St Levan beach:
Near the Minack theatre:
St Mawes to Falmouth ferry:

Congrats on going near the sea and not dying
Ha ha, thankfully my IQ is a bit higher than 70, so I managed to stay alive

We were both nuddy on several different beaches, but on this particular one kids kept swimming round the corner so she put her pants on, I of course remained proud and presented the purple monster to all and sundry
This was another isolated beach we found, with a locked gate and council board say "do not enter due to path collapse". We hopped over the gate and then used a rope (hand over hand) and scrambled down the short cliff onto our own beach with nobody else. I can't tell you what we got up to in that little dark cave you can see, but it involved lots of nortyness and plenty of body parts

Here's another few "arty" shots I took, nothing amazing but a nice memento of quite a lot of stuff we managed to pack into just 3 days.
Today I am off to beautiful Pembrokeshire for a week, to rock climb on the sea cliffs and surf on the beaches (without Nipper as his roof rack and boot is somewhat inferior to the Focus estate).
I dunno how I will ever cope with going back to work after all this freedom over the last year and a half, it will seem like prison like it always does When I total it up, I've only ever worked about 50% of my adult life, spending the other half of it "adventuring" around our own fab country and also living abroad doing things like ski seasons and climbing seasons.
