Nev some great pics and adventure going on 😊 you are very lucky to be able to have the balance of fun and work A note on health and safety for you and do say as a friend.... Based on the protection I have seen you apply to your cars pipes I fear if your doing the same in these 'dark caves' with your own pipe the short term gains and cost saving will be FAR outweighed with the cost of a child......who are also far more mentally demanding than the extreme sports you do 😁 DG

I'm suddenly really interested in this project thread. And more nuddy shots please Nev. Thus is better than the game girlfriend thread.

:D indeed - can she reposition her arm next time?

No more semi nuddy ones, you lot can't cope! Instead, this is one taken of me yesterday with a telephoto lens. I'm about 70 foot up climbing a vertical wall with my arms full of lactic acid.

And yes, I know I'm fat, but am trying to lose weight (as usual)!

Oil changed this morning and also softened the front coilovers by 1 click.

Off for a early morning S.E. Wales drive at dawn tomorrow - anyone else want to join me?

New RC5 pads on the way for the rears as they looked like they were down to the last MM or so today when I saw them.

After the last little run around I noticed that the bonnet was lifting a bit at higher leptonage, so have investigated it and found that the metal bracket was suffering from fatigue, so I have beefed it up. This is in anticipation of the coming Welsh hills blast this Sunday at dawn.  I'm being joined by Josh (JoshuaUxb on here) in his 340 BHP VX and I think he is a very good driver, so Nipper needs to be in fine fettle or I will be hammered !

We have pencilled in meeting at 6.30 AM at Aust Services if anyone is interested in coming.

Yes mum, we promise not to go over 50! Though the weather looks fine ATM or I wouldn't bother spunking £80 on fuel.

Thanks for the invite, as I do find the Alps lovely, although congested. However, the sheer cost of driving Nipper over is huge, and also I usually find I drive like a snail when the scenery is stunning. Also taking anything like camping + climbing equipment would be highly difficult (but not impossible) without my boot.

I forgot to mention that (by chance) we met a small group of nice TVR chaps in Chepstow. They followed us for a few miles before we lost them and both Josh and I were quite surprised by their ability on the twisties.

When I was coming back from the last run I noticed an increase in exhaust noise, so I had a quick look at the turbo area this morning, only to discover the flipping v-band had broken and dropped off the waste-gate. I've ordered a new one which should be easy to put it on when it arrives. I had a lot of fun surfing and coastal exploring last weekend, not car stuff I know, but just as exciting:

The new v-band is now on and I also tightened up a few slightly lose exhaust manifold bolts so the car should be a bit quieter and boost up a bit faster.

The ABS light seems to be permanently on, so I guess one of my hubs has a frayed sensor wire :(

Also I have a possible water leak (maybe out of the expansion cap seal), sitting in grid locked Bristol in 1st and 2nd gear yesterday didn't make Nipper happy.

Flip the rubber seal over inside the pressure cap.

Great tip, thanks, as I hadn't thought of that and it annoyingly seems to vent even at just 94 degrees.

1. ABS light fixed.  There was a snapped wire on N/S/F plug, easily soldered.

2. Coolant cap fixed.  It had a detached pressure relief valve, leaving a 6mm wide hole that was venting both liquid water + steam past.

The car is driving wonderfully at the moment, I'm looking forward to getting out in it on Sat + Sun at dawn.

The next task will be new tyres I think, as the rears are looking low. The Federal RSRs are really wearing nice and slowly, will deffo replace with the same.

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to drive someone else's VX (JoshuaUXB) for an extended drive on some twisty B-road. Firstly I did 100 miles in Nipper and then 50 miles in Josh's car. On exchanging cars it became clear that Nipper was a bit "washy" on the front sometimes (basically understeering a bit) . This washyness is mainly noticeable when the left hand side of the road is cambered downwards (as it commonly does) and you are turning right. I think the difference between the cars was more noticeable as Josh's car was perhaps a bit oversteery, but this made it much more reassuring on slow/mid speed B-roads where you are making a lot of sudden changes in direction for one reason or another.

Anyway, this has prompted me to try and make Nipper a bit more oversteery. So as a start, this morning I have reduce the front ARB setting to minimum and taken him for a little test drive. Perhaps this has helped a bit, on my test small round about I was able to go round pretty neutrally, turn in felt a bit washy if I was aggressive, however a little bit of extra throttle could easily provoke the rear end out. So perhaps this means Nipper is now more neutral, though I think I'd probably prefer a bit more oversteer, so might get the gauges out of the loft and have a bit more of head scratch over the next few days.

Try softening the front up a little?
