let me know what you did to the bonnet release bracket and the support plinth underneath. I have bent my bracket up so many times now it looks like something yuri geller has been at.

I'll take a look, my old one might still be fitted in the car, but with the cable detached obviously.

Try softening the front up a little?

Yeppers, fiddling with front/rear rebound delta is the next easy thing, I have recently been softening it up both front and rear now that Nitron have fixed my bump stop issue. I might stiffen the rear TBH, as it can wallow on certain bumps at the moment, then maybe soften the front.

Josh's car (very unusually) has a rear ARB as well, I still feel/think this is the best solution, though I suppose the cheaper solution is simply stronger springs on the rear (or softer springs on the front). Anyway, his VX is the best handling one I've ever driven, abeit only at slow/mid speeds (not sure how it would be at high speed on the limit).

Another hour in the garage achieved:

1. Reduced front dampers by a click.

2. Re-tighten a turbo to manifold bolt that had unwound and was letting gas past.

3. Put a bit of extra exhaust wrap around the wastegate pipe as the radiated heat off it was melting the bulkhead plastic and making a smell/fire risk.

My current front Nitron springs are 350 Lb, if anyone has a pair available (around 300 to 330 Lb) I'd be keen to snap them up.

Hmm, just been out for a blat around. It seems a bit more responsive on the front end, but it may be an illusion. Swapping cars with Josh would give a better idea.

Yep summer seems to have moved out for the year 😞 I does make me worry a touch about wet handling in the ikle Renault 5 turbo with this rather large 5 pot tfsi and 7 speed dsg 😐 Confirm tomorrow if I can retain transverse layout, if not will flip round and go manual box DG

Not to mention it's tiny "turn on a sixpence" wheelbase.

In the end I tackled the Saturday shoppers and took the son of a family friend out for a drive into the Cotswolds. He is a project manager for various aerospace companies and had shown an interest in the car over the last few years. He was pretty nervous as I strapped him in, but fizzing with excitement at the end of 40 miles and full of insightful and penetrating questions :)

Do you rate the DSG box over the manual?

The latest DQ500 box is far stronger and better than even the DQ200/250 with software You can bounce off the limited, drop clog on demand to high rev range and better control of gear selection As to better than manual there is no argument to be had on what is quicker/smoother and playstation quick Friends latest rs3 has me converted but after a few hours with the 5 today I may have to drop transvere dsg plans or some serious cutting / fabrication I am from the 3 pedal era mimd 😊 DG

Can anyone confirm if the standard OEM front coilover mounting brackets are compatible with Nitron 1-way coilovers please?

I ask as I currently have some lowering brackets that are not allowing the front wheels to droop enough and want to re-install some OEM brackets instead.

I have NTR40's with short spacers, that fit straight into the oem bracket.

I also have a set of Nitron supplied brackets, that are to wide for these nitrons. I think they require wider spacers to be used, like below:

(wide ones left, smaller ones on the right)

Sneaked out to mid Wales early this morning for a 150 miler. The sun poked it's head out briefly for this shot:
