I used to sit next to a kid in school who's brother used to service Polaris missiles, he reckoned less than half would have ever got to their destination if fired due to complexity.  IT these days is much the same, over complex without enough emphasis on robustness and being fit for purpose :(

Got reminded of the above today when I heard the news about the Trident test.   Sheesh, each missile is £nnn million and still doesn't work. All paid for by us the tax payer. I'm in favour of a nuclear deterrent, but it has to bloody work!

It's all being blown out of proportion. Stupid hippies kicking off

It just proves why we need to do tests.

Maybe it's best not to test them, once the Ruskies realise they don't work they might roll into Poland again.

Now that Trumpton is in charge and isn't interested in NATO and helping the squishy border countries, it's a real risk that Putin starts chucking his weight around even more. :(

God help us if we have to rely on the Frenchies to protect us all with their own nukes, they didn't do too well with their last effort (the Maginot line and a few hundred H35 tanks)!

I think it's funny that everyone goes all historical when one slight failure happens in a piece of programming. Trident is one of the very few things that keeps Britain in the super power clib

Maybe it was just to lull the Russians into a false sense of security when actually they work perfectly.

I agree, Trident is important. All the more reason for it to work well. Public demo's of it failing is not good for anyone. :(

Is it confirmed the test failed due to IT or was it some other electro/mechanical fault?

I'm pretty sure it was a failure and was a course deviation due to incorrectly loaded data. Edit wasn't a failure

Ha ha, they probably outsourced the data loading to China or India!

Does anyone know if the Vauxhall paint codes have changed over the years. My paint code is "28U", yet when I look online this is decribed as "Atlantis Blue" (which doesn't sound like the metalic black that Nipper is).

Have they re-assigned the paint codes?

Here is an example: http://www.halfords....ray-paint-300ml

Thanks for finding that, though there doesn't seem to be a conclusive outcome one way or the other.

I guess I could buy some and test spray it on some card and compare it to the car's paint, though it's annoying that something that should be definitive is ambiguous.

I think this was an issue for AstraVXR some time ago. There was a website for ordering the paint that still uses that code. I'll try searching some more.

Ah yes, he had it to tr extreme... he ended up with metallic black and solid black parts that made his car look a right hotchpotch of colours.

Recently bought some rattle cans from Halfords and they seem like a pretty good match :)

The code in their catelogue is correct and the cans are badged up "Vauxhall Black Sapphire Pearlescent Spray Paint"
