Run it with open headers Nev at dusk, world make for some interesting flames. How long have you been using your tig? The more i see of your projects and fabrication the more I like the idea. A MIG is great but not very refined compared.
Open headers, ha ha, someone would call the police within 5 miles and I'd be in the clink. The thing is so noisy, way way way more than a normal car, imagine old skool 1970s F1 levels of noise (but from a lumpy 4 pot obviously!) if the exhaust was off.
With my old exhaust my girlfriend could hear me coming home on the bypass from 1/2 mile away whilst warming down.
I've had the TIG for about 6 months. TBH, a MIG would suffice for 50% of the welding, as the extra filler would help with all the missfitting joins etc (caused by not having precise tooling (ie only using hand held angle grinders etc).

Can you not use some from the old exhaust?

Looking good Nev! Interested in how the boost-valve performs.

Yeppers, that's exactly what I've done, looks a bit chopped/hacked up, but I don't care.
Basically it is almost done, had to exit the garage just now and cook for a dinner party tonight. Tomorrow I should get the flexi welded, make the twin tailpipes and then get it tested. It's a good job I don't have to work, or this would never have got done.
I have put an opposing spring on the actuator, mounted on a long bolt such that I can simply rotate the nut to give adjustable extra preload or no preload. This means I can adjust the noise level in 60 second, to suit extra quiet track days or rampantly noisy road runs.
*EXCITED* !!

Got the exhaust finished today and went out for a blast.
The valve does work well, 93 dB(A) and 100 dB© at idle. Once on the power you can hear the effect when the valve opens up. It's liberated the 50 or 70 odd HP (that I guess) was lost from the last silencer.
Annoyingly though, there are times when the pulses of the exhaust gas cause the valve to flap a bit, so you can hear this at times. Oh well, just another rattle to get used to!
It's almost 3 months since I drove it last, so the sensation of driving a VX was mental. Came back from my 45 minute test run with a headache!

Sure it's not the spring rattling rather than the flap? (Appreciate the two are attached)
Doubtful TBH, that opposing spring I installed is too titchy to make the sound I was hearing.
I did wonder about the sealing ability of the valve at the boost transient. I guess it suffers in the same way that my own DIY flapper valve did. If you think about it any basic valve will have this issue unless it's engineered around somehow.

I will give him a Spring wash soon, but he'll be filthy again 100 miles later, my girlfriend gave up washing him a few years ago.
The yellow thing is a surf kayak, I have an orange river boat on the top right too.
