Put some new air filters in today. The old ones had done about 15,000 miles and looked a bit dirty.

On inspection of my bird (air)box I discovered that it had a 2mm split in one of the joins, so I'm glad I did the job, as this is now re-bonded.

Hopefully Nipper will feel a bit more peppy now at low revs.

Hi Nev,

Hows the exhaust getting along ?

Penbury is 105dB  so you must be now under that

It's complete, almost certainly lower static noise than 105 dB now, though both times I drove to get it noise tested at CC it wasn't possible to get a sound test.

Not interested in going to Pembury TBH. Also Castle Coombe and Thruxton seem more suitable choices to me. Will likely go this summer with some friends.

Thruxton, no chance.

They are a static noise test of 90dB.

Surely Pembrey is the logical choice, so you can actually compare against other VXs?

I'm not? I said he won't get onto Thruxton, due to it's super tight noise... I know this as I'd like to try Thruxton myself. Fastest UK circuit.

Thruxton is even tighter than Bedford for example.

Edit to add Bedford reference

Has anyone got any spare M10 torx headed bolts I could have/buy please? These are the external headed ones with 6 star points and are used all over the Vauxhall engines, anything 35mm long or more would be great please.

3 bolts being sent kindly by the Batman. Hopefully I won't ever need them, but if my manifold bolts snaps again at least I'll have a spare.

Someone was asking for a picture of the adjustable exhaust clamp. It was bought off eBay and I needed to cut and re-weld the middle to get it's approx length correct.

The Mikalor clamp firmly grips the exhaust pipe, the black M8 bolt goes into a thread in the block.

New rear tyres on today. One of them was a complete bitch to get it to bead properly (even with 90 PSI). It took the garage 1.5 hours. My TD 1.3 rims have always been a tight fit - be warned if you think of getting any (and they bend quite easily as well).

Yea, I kept to the federals this time, but next time my fronts will be tired, so might review a new brand on all 4 corners.

I would also really like to increase my tyre profiles from 30%r and 35%f in an effort to reduce camber sensitivity. But this in turn will lengthen the gearing. :(

I could really do with a lower geared final drive in the gearbox, as currently the car does 160 leptons in 4th gear alone, so I could really do with closer and lower ratios so I can use the gears more. Also I find 1st gear is too low ratio, ideally I'd prefer a longer 1st gear.

I agree 1st is way too short. I did wonder about 4th, tested to 140 leptons and that was enough. God bless the lepton What are your wheel sizes Nev out of interest?
