If it's of any help with your selection, even on a dry day with warm rear 285mm x 18" tyres I still spin up (occasionally) in 3rd gear (with a 3.63 final drive in the gearbox). That's with just 340 ft/lb of torque.

I would imagine your torque is the same as mine, so with just 235mm tyres AND with the added torque of 15" wheels you will be spinning up all the time at a guess. Food for thought.

You probably have 30-40 ftlb more torque than me nev I'm actually after more traction when coming out of the corners the car is not bad in a straight line It's all a unknown but until I try I don't know

Just checked back over this thread and Photobucket have scuppered all my pics. :( *cry*

I've opened an Imgur account now, but all the old project pics are dead, long live the new pics. The project is concluded now, so I don't really anticipate making any major changes (and hence pics). TBH, I don't really even drive him so much now either, as I seem to have lost the "car buzz" a bit now and tend to be spending more time outdoors:

Photo credit to professional photographer Carl Ryan (Black Planet Photography) for this great shot, taken yesterday as I was 130 foot up in SW Wales. He was kind enough to follow us round for the afternoon and send me some of the pics.

I think the pic was taken from a long distance, so it's been cropped a lot (so some resolution loss).

Bare skin on ankles, tight little black + blue rubber climbing boots.

Deffo 130 foot up, sweating like a rapist and hoping not to fall.

I am using ropes + some metal gear jammed into cracks in the rock, but you never really know how far you might fall depending on if/how well the gear stays in the rock - might be 5 foot or might be 100 foot.

It's a superb sport, just as life threatening and consequential as driving fast, it's also hugely mentally challenging as well as hugely physically challenging. I'd advise anyone to try it at least once if they can; indoor climbing walls usually offer short courses to teach you the basics if anyone is interested (makes a great Xmas/B'day pressy).

I am still on looking for a second hand pair of 17" TD Pro Race 1.2 wheels in silver. These are commonly fitted on the rear of VX220s and are 7.5" width.

Please could you let me know if you have a pair for sale.

Thanks.

A brand new pair are circa £300, so I guess I'd pay half that for second hand pair in reasonable condition. I'm happy to buy a cosmetically poor pair too, so long as they don't need more than 75 grams of weight to balance.

Oil change today as I was feeling energetic, also checked the Chinese valve was operating correctly on the exhaust (which still seems to be).

Gonna risk an early morning Wales run tomorrow, even though it will likely be damp after the latest carpet dousing we seem to be getting this "summer", and also my first weekend at home for ages.

Lovely sunny outing early this morning, though I need to find some new roads as I'm too familiar with the routes I've been doing recently.

Ordered up a mild steel 90 degree 89mm diam bend today. This will allow me to make a downward pointing tailpipe (to try and further reduce noise).

I have a few ideas about tack welding on some bits on the tailpipe and doing some sounds tests to see what makes the gas exit the quietest...

The last part of the silencer jigsaw. Based on what others on here have said, this will (hopefully) act as a downward pointing tailpipe and kill a couple more dB.

It's only mild steel, so will require lots of regular polishing and cleaning, so I can stay up with the Jones's!
