Getting it tacked up tomorrow morning, will then drive back home and bolt it all on to check the other pipework mates correctly. If it looks good then I will get it seam welded on Fri night or Sat morning, so I can hopefully get out at the weekend for a couple of sorties, fingers crossed.

It is a bit nerve wracking though. :(  If I had to weld it I can't imagine it would last another 8 years.

i hope your going to put that on a belt sander to flatten it all.. otherwise if they tack that and weld it it will fall apart.

Took the manifold and jig round to my friend yesterday, sounds like I won't have it back again until early next week. This means I'm left twiddling my thumbs this weekend instead of driving, which is a shame as it's lovely and cool this morning but with bright sunshine. I dislike having the car in a non functioning state, first time it's happened for a year (since the last time the bloody manifold needed fixing). :(

I guess I could apply myself to some DIY jobs round the house instead. :glare:

It's 166 CM wide, 40 CM deep, 4 CM thick, weighs 2.5 Kg. Thus the important chord ratio is 10:1.

It creates a lot of drag, so I wouldn't necessarily advise putting one on yourself TBH. I wouldn't be surprised if it robs me of 75 or 100 HP at 150 leptons.

Thank nev lucky enough i dont reach them speeds on track, unless I get really brave, I've just purchased a wide rear wing which is actually wider 😲 But by my calculations it still comply with the regs for sprinting ( I'm aloud 150mm beyond the factory original body work excluding mirrors )

Okies, the outside tips of it need to be within the confines of the existing bodywork to be road legal I think (certainly for SVA). Do you ever use yours on the road any more ?

Have you rung Steve up yet and ordered your Quaife ATB yet? By the sounds of it, that should make a big positive difference for you, more than a wing I suspect. :)

There is a fitting guide for the diff on here somewhere, put up by Dave Hardwick.

After a lot of thinking and dilemma, I've decided not to take the gearbox out until the winter, the car is reliable and don't particularly won't to remove the gearbox and potentially upset the reliability and when the sprints come thick and fast also don't won't to be let down by a third party ( installing the diff )

I can't imagine that you wont like it, though you might find you need to tinker with your geo to allow you to control understeer/oversteer with the accelerator when you are on the limit. This is the sort of fine tuning that no geometry company can give you, you have to do it yourself and test and repeat, test and repeat, but as I discovered the benefits are there if you persist.

Ha, took delivery of a large batch of nuts and bolts today. Spent 45 minutes in the garage sorting, collating and combining them with my existing ones into 3 large partitioned carry cases.

If I had to guess, I'd say I save something like 2,000 or 3,000 different nuts/bolts/washers and got a strange sense of satisfaction from having them all ticky-boo and labelled up.

Got the manifold back today, in a tacked up state so I could offer it up to the existing fittings and check it still fits - it does. :)

Have made myself a "solid" side engine mount. I say solid, in that the threaded bar will link directly through both top + bottom, but the PU on it will allow some sort of cushioning & lateral flex, albeit only 1 or 2 mm, depending on how I fit the top and bottom nut (possibly with a cushioning washer). I am unsure if this is going to suffer from metal fatigue, time will tell no doubt and I'll have to inspect it. I will be swapping the 2.5 time stronger mount from the gearbox side to the OS, so the whole engine should be tethered down better.

The manifold should be seam welded up on Thurs hopefully, my welder friend did a good job of physically & chemically cleaning it and then built the welds up on the mouths circumference to a level plane. Thankfully his welding is 1001% better than mine, which is a good thing otherwise aeroplanes would be falling out of the sky (as that's his specialism).

It's been a bit frustrating to have all this lovely weather and not being able to use the car for a week.

Nice to have access to a good welder.

I was running an errand for a friend , who wanted some structural plates for construction , and ran some drawings over to a place in Chertsey , http://mauricenash.com/ , got talking as you do , amongst other things they have to do bespoke work on all the rollercoaster roides at the nearby Thorpe Park. But I can't believe the local rates , £9000 year for council to not even get a bin , he owns the building , so what do the council actually do for the money?

The council tax on my tiny house is £2500. For that I get my bins emptied once every 2 weeks and a street light near my property...

In contrast, my brothers house is 5 times larger than mine and he only pays £3000; little scalable logic there.

That's my little nephew in the foreground, he is already showing lots of interest in things mechanical, currently going through his steam train phase at the moment and knows more about how they work than most adults! Last time I took him out to a steam railway event he was discussing the con rods and gudgeon pins on the wheels. He's 3. :)
