Well I'm back from CMS (by train) so I can report the good news so far.

1. The oil leak thankfully is just where I forgot/lost a rubber washer on the crank sensor that fits into the block.

2. Jon thinks my 3 ply 102mm to 76 mm 90 degree intake hose will collapse under strong induction at high revs, so will be replacing this.

3. Stephan apparantly laughed when he heard that I had supplied 875cc/min injectors and said that "though he could map for them, they would only allow a minimum idle would be at around 1200 revs and clearly never make it through an MOT emission tes"t. Clearly Niper isn't a race car, so I have followed his/Jon's advice and bought a set of 630cc injectors off them instead which will allow far better fuel control at low revs.

Well, anyway after this shinannegens, while I was in the train on the way back Jon rang me back. Apparently the first pull on the dyno made 449 BHP, 450 ft/lbs of torque at just 6900 revs and 1.2 bar of boost (with the Amal valve (which the ECU uses to increase boost disconnected). This is amazing news to me and clearly shows the engine + induction is workings really well, even without setting the timing advance and fuel tabs up correctly. Basically, this is the minimum power that the engine can possibly make which means that they can't reduce the power for partial throttle. Thus Jon is trying to get a far weaker spring to put in my wastegate. This will allow the engine to accelerate less violently, particularily through the important off/on boost transition and allow me to control wheel spin.

I am so relieved that the engine has surived the first few pulls, though they havent yet taken it up to 8000 revs. Bear in mind the turbo is theoretically capable of twice that much boost it's hard to imagine quite how much power the engine could make if it were allowed to. I think they will be continueing the good work tomorrow so I will post some updates when I get some more info.

Thanks for all the good wishes chaps, it's heart warming :)

Is this why they haven't rang to say ny cars ready - more intersting things arrived

Great result, if somewhat of an interim one! So far so good. Once the tweaks and mapping finalized this is going to be a pretty epic VX. Well done to you and everyone that has helped you along the way! I have kept a keen eye on this thread and your blog and continue to be amazed by your dedication to this project.

Are you astravxr in disguise?? Seriously though good work and WOW! Not just for the results that you've achieved but because it's all been done by yourself in your own garage!!!! Hope it all stays together and you manage to get useable power. It must be mentally fast even on the lowest setting!!!!!!
