I'd love to see you trying to ring every last rev out of first gear at full chat

I think at 'full chat' in 1st or 2nd or 3rd gear and I'd just spin the whole car off the road. As Duncan says I need to go to an airfield or some huge open space to see what is/isn't achievable.

Incidentally, the new hybrid hardened Sach/Helix clutch is working very nicely, coping with the torque and also nice to engauge and pull away from a standing start.

Based on that I think I am going to need more rubber to get the power down, so am seriously thinking about getting the DTS wheels (245 width rears and 215 on the fronts) to help.

There's a guy selling a set in gunmetal metalic on forum.opel-speedster-club.de for EUR 780 (think he'd take less). Might beat you to it though as I'd like a set.

By the way these wheels are now TüV approved for the road. They're not track only wheels.

Now time to find a big old open sapce and scare yourself :ninja:

Easy... Take it out on a north-german autobahn on a sunday evening or so...

Corners? What corners? Gradients? What gradients?

Would show up heat issues in a big way ;)

However.. It may be wise to calculate how long it could run at full throttle at 500+bhp on a full tank.. The result may be a little scary :D

Also.. Make sure the tyres are up to the projected speed. I guess 'Y' rated ones are definitely needed!

Bye, Arno.

*gulp*, I don't want to face up to any heat issues and I know there are still nasty vague burning smells coming from the engine bay. I have a home made turbo heat shield that I fabricated 6 months ago to install when I can be bothered to get under it. Need to check all the rubbers and pipes too. As it is, I am still driving without even bothering to put the bottom floorpan in to help with cooling. As for the cost of fuel, it's hadly worth considering when compared to the rest of the build - mad I know. I expect it will do around 35 to 40 MPG if I just potter around, just as it used to previously. I've been patiently waiting for the roads to dry out this morning, they are 90% dry now so I might venture out for a chug about.

Phew, just got back from my 'chug about'. Managed to get it upto 6000 revs on partial throttle in 3rd gear and it behaved itself. The engine sounded really sweet and smooth to be honest, though if I had been on WOT I think I might have ended up in the armco. I guess the way to control all this torque will be to fit TC, but it's yet another expense and also quite a fickle piece of electronics to get to work right. Tim, I will try and lash my camera down to the dasboard and record a video for you next time. :)

Yes, use google, although that site insists you register, including lots of personal data, before you can see anything.

To be honest moneyhunster I was interested. I emailed the guy and have so far had no response. I'll pm you if he gets back to me and I decide against them.

Golly, I need to make a decission about wheels soon as I am approaching the markers on the rears and front tyres. Not looking fwd to pissing £850 on wheels and another £600 on tyres, but I think I have to as traction is a real problem.

Today I was accelerating at around 75% throttle and approx 50 MPH with the right hand wheel going over some white diagonal road markings. As a consequence that side lost traction briefly (as the paint has a lower coeficient of friction and is more bumpy). Once again the diff sorted things out again in an instant thankfully, but I think more traction is going to help keep me pointing in a straight line more often.

Overall, if I am on good tarmac I can plant all the power down I think (assuming the tyres are hot and the front wheels are more or less straight). However, as we know 'good tarmac' is a rare treat on many of our roads

Carsten, yes you are right, I need TC I think, but it is yet another expense... and hassle to put it in. Tim, yep it is genuinely terrifying, you know I still havent gone above 6000 RPM yet !! I had a race with a 'keen' motorbiker and only needed about 6000 RPM to blow him away. He was so stunned, he had another attempt to overtake me on the next stretch of road and failed again. Then as I was 'cooling down', he then proceded to follow me into my estate and peer down into the car to try and work out what the hell he'd lost against. Very amusing and great fun.

What have you done about the dials Nev? They only go up to 7k. Way down on the list I suspect.
