That's an amazing plot, I've never seen anything like it before. Clearly your mapping is excelent, I am guessing that you are using the wastegate boost solonoid to control and keep the torque line so amazingly flat , something that can't be done with the stand Motronic 1.5.5 on mine :( I wish I could afford your system, I'm sure it world turn my car from being nice to drive to truely wonderful. I am a programmer myself, so mapping a car is something I could understand easily and would love to experiment with the settings, sadly though I am not paid enough to buy such automotive luxuries :( Is your car back together after your stripped it down a couple of months ago?

Good write up Nev and some great advice in there. Interesting how you prioritise a cam change. As you know, I'm still on stock cams but half looking to experiment with something different so would be interested to know your thoughts. Trouble is, nobody that I've come across has ever tried a change of cams in isolation, its always don't at the same time as head/valve work which makes it very hard to register what gains you're actually getting. What I would really like to do is spend a day at the dyno and test, say, three different profiles but to do that you need to find a cam company who actually cares about improving their product and not just selling their standard off the shelf stuff!

that'll be CatCams or Newman then.

Piper Cams were more than willing to help with the design of the cams I installed in Nev's engine.

It is not alway possible to quantify indpvidual modification they are designed to work together. Nev's engine made more power at less boost than some with a turbo two or three sizes bigger using more boost, so to me it shows that the cams, port job, valves, inlet, exhaust, turbo etc are all working efficiently. I do believe improvments can be made [n the power delivery with a fully mappable ecu like the F88/ Syvecs S6 ECU,DTA,Pectel etc, with a different wastgate in a different position, slightly different cam timming, different inlet manifold etc all of which needs bach to back testing on and engine dyno ont a rolling road/hub dyno. I did find a fwd gearbox that will take 500+ ft/lb's torque sequential dog box made by the company who build transmision for rallycross, cost £15,000. Steve

There are a couple of sequential's that could be an option. The best is the new Xtrac (not an all new box, more up-rated current design) which has been done for the new touring car regs for turbo engines, another is the Elite transmissions box which is cheaper but agricultural in comparison and the other is the Tractive which is made with a casing machined from billet. Its no small job though, by the time you have sorted new mounts, driveshafts etc you will have spent the best part of £20K. Even once its done there are downsides as well as up-sides... rebuild intervals will be regular and most boxes have a plate diff which will be hard to setup in the Elise platform.

Its not that expensive, especially when you consider the available safety features which will save an engine when things go wrong. If you did the leg work yourself and just paid for the hardware its well worth considering.

Sadly, 'most' programmers I've come across that reckon calibrating an engine is easy tend to nuke the first one or two

Did my first proper cold start yesterday since the new engine. I think the temps were about 7 degrees C. The car was noticeably lumpy and spluttery for the first few miles but was fine once it had heated up. I suspect this might be because of my spark plugs (which are the super cool running Iridium 9 grade) - can anyone else confirm if they suffer the same probs with these plugs please? Maybe I need some grade 7 or 8 plugs for winter? Incidentally, my new heater pannel (the metal bulkhead behind the seats) which is heated by the turbo provides so much heat into the cabin that I had to switch my fan heater off as I was boiling the cabin. :D

can't remember if i'm running 8 or 9 but took mine out this morning, ran perfect, apart from the blowing exhaust manifold. Ran so well that when I met a Mclaren out for a test run it thoroughly embarrassed the big mac in a straight line and noise, got the thumbs up and a mimed f*ck from the test driver. :up

I see you're replacing the front clam. Will you be selling the original? Should be easy to shift.
