It is with some regret that I have decided to stop posting on this thread (and some of the others) and become a bit more detached from VX220.Org

I had hoped to share the experience of the whole project, but these days I seem to get slated more and more, so have decided to stop. I will however be continueing my blog my updates on my own website which goes out to the larger community and benefits people beyond VX220.Org

Sadly a few people on this website have (once again) spoilt it for the many.

Nev.

:o Thats a shame but i don't see why it should bother you so much what the minority say. Some of your posts seem to belittle anyone with less than 300bhp and rub people up the wrong. Theres no doubt that you know your stuff and the forum needs knowledgable members like you on it. Good luck with the rest of your build! thumbsup

:( Please don't stop posting about your mods, I am one of many that enjoy reading about your unique car and what you have achieved with it. It's cars like yours that add inspiration to the community. You said it yourself, why should a few people that you have for what ever reason become disgruntled with spoil it for the rest. Can't you just rise above it and ignore their comments? (Isn't there an ignore post option on here) Surely bowing out as you are is only showing your weakness to them. We can't all get along in life and alot of the time what is said accross a forum does not reflect a persons true character in real life. Take solace in the fact that alot of the digs will purely be born out of jealousy. It's YOUR car and YOUR choice as to what you do with it. That said you can't expect everyone to agree with your choice of direction and I think it only fair that people are free to comment both positively and in a constructive non mud-slinging way negatively towards what you do. Just because there may be a difference of opinion it should not constitute a falling out, we all like different things for different reasons and it would be very boring to have it any other way. Don't take this the wrong way but you have on occasion, to me at least, come accross as a little big headed or patronising. I don't know if this was intentional or simply in retaliation but I can't help but feel perhaps you are adding fuel to the fire just a little? :grouphug:

That's a fox being thrown out of the pram isn't it Alex? If it was a wolf you've had been in my bad books.

Nev - You clearly have a passion for your car and I respect you for that. But you can come across as slightly arrogant which is I'm sure or at least hope is not intended. For example, I once posted up a pic of my engine bay asking what a particular pipe / hose was for as it had collapsed. It tuned out to be the brake servo hose and I simply asked how easy it was to replace or whether i should just let Vauxhall replace it as it was something they should have sorted under a recall type issue. This is the exchange we had on my thread:

Wolfstone, the best solution is to learn how to do these easy jobs on your own car.

By saying that you are 'no good' at these things simply means that you are admitting to an IQ of less than 90 (the average IQ of a Vaux mechanic IMO). I would hope that someone in your career could manage to replace a simple length of rubber hose, or is that asking too much of the average intellectual ability of a diplomat?

Honestly, I am staggered by how much help people need in order to achieve even the simplest task. Shame on you.

Add up all the time you must have spent on the phone, driving to Vaux etc.... I suspect you could easily have done the job yourself by now in this much time.

Well that's really cheered me up Nev. Thanks. Did I really deserve such a bashing??

Sorry to be so harsh, but so many people come on here sobbing and begging for help without any willingness to do simple things themselves. It's not hard to learn steadily about car mechanics really, I've learnt huge amounts on here and by simply having a go, to the point now where I am rebuilding and fitting a whole new engine + turbo. I would like to think most people could do the same, surely replacing a few inches of rubber pipe isnt that hard ?

Nev - I wasn't sobbing and I wasn't begging for help. At any point have I asked for someone to come and help? I was simply asking if anyone on the forum knew if it really does involve the removal of the sill. Isn't that what this forum is supposed to be about? VIX's response (about being able to pull the new pipe through by attaching it to the old pipe) was the sort of helpful post that I was looking to elicit (Thanks VIX - very much appreciated. chinky chinky) And you've obviously benefited from the advice of forum members over the years to the extent that you've rebuilt your engine. I'm genuinely pleased that you had this sort of help from members to enable you to carry out such work.

If it was a case of having to pay for the replacement of the pipe myself then I would have more sympathy for your views that I should perhaps have a go myself. But 1) this is Vauxhall's problem so why should I do it myself? 2) This is brake related and personally I'm not prepared to mess about with something that is so fundamentally important to my safety. As Rob says, we all have our strengths and weaknesses.

I'm sure you're also aware that its not just "a few inches of rubber pipe". Its about 3.5m that runs the length of the car and is obviously pretty inaccesible.

I think it is this type of posting that has a tendency to rub some members up the wrong way. I hope you get your car sorted after the 'mishap' and I hope you stay around the forum as you clearly have a wealth of knowledge that would be a loss to the members on here. But its probably worth you thinking about how your posts come across before hitting the 'Add Reply' / 'post' button.

All in my humble opinion of course.

Nev, when you embark on a project like this YOU ARE going to get opinions of all sorts. Opinions that you either agree or disagree with. On an open forum you will get all sorts of comments. I am certain that you understand that. The problem as I see it, is that some of your comments and replies do come across as a bit high and mighty (for want of a better expression) and us humble standard power VX owners do not always take kindly to being seen as an under-class :P Nobody here has, to my knowledge, lowered themselves to personal insults or abuse. The straw that broke the camel's back seems to be a simple "too much power" comment which is bizarre as the whole question of "how much power?" is subjective. I am following Bloodhound SSC's progress with interest (I am sure you are) - imagine if Richard Noble were to pull the plug on his blogs because someone were to state that 1000mph "is too fast". I will think it is. He doesn't. My name will still be on the tail-fin though as a sponsor :) But it's the pushing the boundaries that is the over-riding interest, as it is with your Nipper project. It would be a shame if you were to stop posting here, as member do generally value your input. Whatever happens, best of luck with the rest of your project.... thumbsup

Nev, I will miss your contributions and this thread. I will continue to read your blog. But in all truth I have little sympathy. Some of your posts on other peoples posts, purchases and mods have been much ruder than you've received. Maybe you should lok back at some of the things you've posted and have a little humility.

Sad to hear this Nev. I enjoy reading your thread and posts about the beast of a car you have. Is that the real reason or are you doing it to divert traffic through your website rather than through .org? Obviously popular websites are prime for making money through advertisements. Either way good luck with the car. Hopefully I'll be out on a VX run with it so it can completely decimate my N/A in a straight line! chinky chinky

Well, after 6 months the car is fully operational and phase II is almost complete and I actually feel like posting something about it again on here.

If anyone is interested in reading about it, there are two pages about the developments here and here. There are some nuggets of info in there that will help any track day stars or swift road car drivers trying to get more out of their car. Sharing my findings and woes with the wider community so they could benefit from my mistakes/oversights/successes was the main reason I spent hundreds of hours building the website.
