Funny you should mention it. I did take a micro camera out the other day, but whenever I accelerated hard it flipped over, so it never took any decent shots. Tim, you will have to come by Bristol one day and have a psx ride, a camera will never tell the full story ;)

Hope you aren't leading the runout tomorrow Nev, the others may not keep up ;) As Tim said, look forward to some video footage...

Well, amazingly I think I've cured my oil leak - hoorah! I've thraped the engine on 2 runs so far and also done a leisurely run too. On all ocassions, once parked up it didn't drop any oil at all :)

This means I can put the floorpan back on, though I may avoid this ATM as the country is so hot. I saw inlet temps soaring to 38 degrees C when tanking it and also engine coolant temps upto 92 degrees briefly on a couple of occasions.

The run on Sunday with some of local chaps was fun, I took a nice newbie called Rob (currently looking to buy an NA) out for a first taster of turbo power. He took some pics:

He stayed at the back like a good boy ;)

In all actuality, I'm pretty sure he stayed at the back so he could lag behind and then catch up quickly lol.

In fairness to Nev, the roads we drove weren't really that great for Nipper :( so sorry for that

Haha, had an ironic moment last night trying to get into the Halfords car park to buy some cleaning stuff. Their anti-chav speed bumps were so large that I couldn't drive Nipper into their car park ;)

Is experimenting with a spare floorpan an option?
The lotus nacaducts are cheap, and you could squeeze in 3 more maybe?

I'm guessing but I don't think those naca ducts do much at all. I have considered making downward protruding cut out flaps that scoop air up from under the car and fire it at the turbo and sump area. However these would catch on anything that went under the car like road-kills etc. TBH, it's not a big issue as running without the floorpan is so easy during the summer months as I don't think it affect stability or aero till you are doing at least 120+ leptons.

I think the NACA ducts are much more effective than you'd think from looking at them. I think somebody, probably Winstar, did some numbers for them at some point in the past.

They might be moderately reaonsable, but I have to evacuate approx 370 kWatt of heat out of the engine/bay at max power. I can't see a couple of 2x10 cm slits alleviateing 370 kWatt bar fires in the engine bay. Just imagine them compressed into the engine bay  - this is one of the reasons why I havent had the balls to put the undertray on yet!

Agreed. Slicing a 2 inc line across the entire tray, bending it inwards, and mazing it, would generate a lot more.
Nobody else tried this?

It would be pointless without supporting bodywork mods to vent the air. It would just act like a parachute without half the rear clam missing.

My rear half of the clam is vented now and the boot has pepper-pot holes in it to allow through flow. Also, I can remove the bulkhead pannel at will. Surprisingly, rather than sucking air in from the cabin through this, the air flow out of the engine bay into the cabin. Clearly the pressure in the cabin is less than the engine bay (this is all with the floorpan off mind, so it might change if I were to re-install the floorpan).

You could cut some really big holes (not one obviously, due to loss of rigidity) in the desired areas of the tray, and add alu mesh?

Having seen the insides of Nevs boot (looks like swiss cheese - which feeds to the upper vents in the clam) I doubt holes in the undertray will add all that much ventilation/heat dissipation to whats going on through the 'ears' and out the rear clam.

,Per

245 fronts (35% profile), 285 rears (30% profile). I'm experimenting with ride heights every few days now, ATM I have 95mm NSF and 100 OSF. However, every time I raise the ride height the handling improves, so this is likely to go up further.

I have started a new web page on my blog with some videos of my aerodynamic mods and engine bay air flow.

My hope is to understand how/where air is flowing - both inside the engine bay and on the surfaces of the car.

It's only ball park 'home science' (which is all I can afford!), but I think the 2 videos I've posted already ratify my wing design :)
