I've got a chap called Nick (not NickB777 BTW) coming round in his newly converted Harrop SC'ed VX with 370 BHP. He's got a bit of a funny noise so we are going to try and identify it. Am really looking forward to a passenger ride, as the fastest SC car I've been in so far was only stage 3.

Can you ask him for some details? What block, internals... What SC, chargecooling and what ecu he runs. Or simply ask him to join VX220.org with his build.

From when I talking to him, I think he wants to remain anonymous, though I will ask him again tonight :)

His VX is just his road car, he has a 350 BHP MR2 for racing.

You would see 360bhp from a stage 3 sc internals.

Does that mean you like me too Smiley, as my VX is just a road car (at the moment). If I had the money, I'd be quite keen to build a balls out VX for trackwork though. Based on something like the 4 litre v8 M3 (designation: S65) engine (which revs well and could be mounted lengthways), supercharged, electronic seqential transaxle, stripped, modified wishbones +uprights, very wide wheels, modified bodyshell, stronger (re-designed) rear subframe etc etc. The M3 engine is great and would knock out 525 BHP very smoothly I think which should make it reasonably competative. Mind you, if I really had money I'd buy an Ultima GTR wth a crap engine and build and install an American V8 "mouse" engine with a supercharger. They are hard to beat really once they get beyond 600 BHP. Those american V8s can easily make 2000 BHP if you think you can get it down on the tarmac :o . I knew of a guy who had built a 2500 BHP engine, to enter a cross desert race where he was expecting to average speeds of 230 MPH - AVERAGE !!!

Ok, so he is the other Harrop-ed 2,2, running with the std 2,2 ecu and probably Eagle rods and Wiseco pistons. Would be nice to know his exhaust specs and possible headwork & cams from his 370BHP...

Smooth but slow, the difference in torque is very apparent. I'd much rather have plenty of torque for the road or else I'd fall asleep whist driving ;)

I've just booked the car in at a local geometry place to finally get the car setup how I want it. After experimenting with various road heights and valve settings I have a good idea of what I want for types of road I drive on. Contrary to popular geos, I have decided on a ride height of 105 front and 115 rear. I'll have the fronts and rears aligned to a 340r road setup. Lastly I will get a report back tell me what the castor and camber is currently. Then I can see if these need further adjustment and buy the shims if necessary. For the moment I have left the outstanding issue of what FARB to install as the car seems to turn in/corner quite well on poor tarmac/camber and amazingly on smooth level tarmac (particularily when the front is under load from braking and the full extra tyre surface can operate due to higher loading).

Just went for a little tootle on the local roads and whilst stuck in traffic, a chap in the car next to me shouted "excuse me mate, what is it?". I shouted back "It's a Vauxhall", to which he laughed - perhaps he thought I was joking ?!

Afer running on 18 clicks of valve on the Nitrons for ages, I wound them back to 6 clicks as a final experiment. I deffo prefer the car with less clicks, traction and predicatabilty on poor tarmac is quite a lot better. It's suprising what a difference it makes. Will leave it on 6 clicks I think, for locals roads anyway.

0 clicks is most drivable/traction for potholes in most cars I would think. The better the tarmac, the bigger the number of clicks you can risk. Loads of other factors affect the feel of supension though, as every car is different. Things like: 1. spring rates 2. tyre sidewall design (bulging/flat). 3. profile aspect of the tyre (Eg 30% or 50%). 4. how close to the bumpstop your springs are lowered to. 5. pressure in the tyre (eg 22 PSI is more foregiving than 26 PSI). 6. How many layers the tyres is made of and the sidewall stiffness.

Are you counting the number of clicks back from full hard?.
