If it does crack it will remain in 1 piece attached to the wood as it keys into that better form the aluminium. However in practice it will be fine, I even have epoxy inside my top hat to smooth the airflow of mouth/inlet to the throttle body. This is quite common practice in the motorbiking world, where DIY tuners use epoxy to add material to the inside of their inlet pipes to eek every last HP out of them. I have just got back from the garage after re-installing the old 89 mm MAF and the car is idling fine again. I can't go for a test run ATM as it's been snowing (big flakes) and the roads will likely have been gritted by the council :(

I have Nipper booked in on a local dyno on Friday. The objective is to: 1. Check that fueling is ok after all my recent pipework mods. 2. Compare the new dyno plot against the old one to see if it has changeed the way the graph builds (I suspect/hope it is making more torque lower down the revs). 3. Do various dyno pulls using my manual boost controller with 8 PSI of boost, 12 PSI, 16 PSI, 20 PSI etc and see how the graphs vary and the fueling is still ok. I am really keen to see these graphs, with the boost limited from around 4300 revs all the way to 8000 RPM. I'll start the guessing game for 8 PSI of boost... 210 ft/lb of torque and 250 BHP (which strikes me as approx the same as a stage 2 supercharged VX)....

iirc 8 psi is standard map on overboost, then about 6psi held , so around 200bhp

Im all set for the dyno tomorrow and excited, as this is where I will (hopefully) get proof of having smoothed out the power delivery. Overall though, the car feels less powerfull than it used to a year ago, maybe the fiddling I've done has affected something, god knows, tomorrow will be the acid test though.

Additionally, I have got two new mods now sitting on my bench awaiting installation. They are both quite influential parts and hence can't be added without a remap/new ECU. Write up about them at the bottom of here.

Have also permanently replumbed in the vacuum box and rear solonoid to control the bypass valve with upsized vacuum pipes. This has improved gear changes a bit I think.

If you have time it may be worth taking the old bits with you to do a back to back test on the same rollers ;) Good luck and hope it goes well DG

Too much hassle to put the old stuff in Dunc, it would require a clam off for a start and hours of farting about. :(

Can we have videos of it on the rollers? Is that allowed? :)

Hi Tim, long time no speaky squeeky ! I might try and take a video if I rememeber to pack my camera and tripod, not that it will be much different to any other VX220 on the rollers really. Thankfully I have already remembered to pack my ear protectors and vacuum pipes, which are more important ! I also have a new super precise pneumatic needle valve on my desk to give better control of the boost. This will replace the brass ball and spring MBC I bought which was rather poor.

Is nobody gonna guess what power and torque it makes at minimum boost (8 PSI) ?!...

Well, I'm back from the rolling road session. Things went very well in terms of power delivery and power levels. However the car was overboosting (and hence fueling dangerously) in certain circumstances. Bearing in mind I specifically and categorically asked Courtenay Sport to set a protective MAP limit to prevent this, either I have a hardware fault with the boost control solonoid or this was not done . I am intending to replace the boost solonoid in the next few days to check this. Anyway, my latest batch of mods have have had a superb effect on the smoothness of the pwoer deliver (as detected by my seat of the pants dyno). There is no torque spike what so ever and anyone reading the graphs would think it was a NA. My brothers BMW M3 dyno plot is no better and that is a benchmark engine to measure against (IMO). One little glitch was that the dyno cut out at 155 MPH, which in 4th gear is at 7500 RPM, so none of the plots measure beyond 7500. This is not a big issue though, as it's easy to extrapolate the last 500 RPM.
