it's a wonder that you survived all that petrol running about !

Most dangerous bit was when the wife came home and saw the state of the drive (tarmac + petrol = :o ) and the now black petrol run off, on the front lawn. Think NickB777 will vouch for that, as he sensibly beat a hasty retreat. :beat:

Todays progress with kind and very helpful Alex (Vespa) who traveled all the way from Surrey to Bristol to help me out:

1/ New uprated fuel pump inserted.
2/ New uprated rear hub carrier bolts inserted.
3/ New fuel filter.

Details if you are interested: HERE

Next stop = BIG turbo + home made exhaust manifold (hopefully)...

The all important turbo has now been ordered, I plumped for the brand new (not yet released) Garrett GTX 3071R. Estimated power output is 450 to 525 BHP in my setup if all goes well. This turbo is has a redsigned CHRA over the normal GT3071R and is blows approx 12% more air.

More details here.

Hmm, interesting. These twin scroll turbo's that diesels use, and are starting to be used in petrols, do you know if anyone has tried fitting them aftermarket? I guess writing a map for that would be interesting, adding another variable.

Vague recollection of Steve/sizetenboots starting a thread on here about them.

Can't remember the outcome if any, packaging a potential problem I would assume!?!?

any map for a garrett would just need adjusting for fuelling, otherwise they (the holset HY35/HX35/HX40) beat the garrett in every way, better spool, better efficiency, better airflow, better build quality, better price.

you could buy a z20let cast manifold with a T3 flange, and do your own thing. Personally I am calling an end to further z20let development and going over to Saab B204 although the B234 gives easier torque for less engine stress.

not wanting to hijack this thread or anything, but ive heard the saab engine mentioned quite a lot when it comes to big power but know nothing about it. is it similar in design to the z20let? what car does it come from? is it a realistic alternative if you wanted to go for big power like nev is doing? what is the development potential, costs involved etc??

theres probably a fair bit about it already on here, but i struggle like furk when it comes to searching for anything :(

thanks!! thumbsup

Comes from the old saab 9000

as per all old swedish stuff massivly over engineer bottom end is good for 500+bhp and there is open source software to map the ECU. It has a GM gearbox bolt pattern so will bolt stright onto the vx.

As for costs v cheap a guy ran a 500bhp saab 9000 in last years PPC £999 challenge with an old holset truck turbo. This is next years project clicky (600bhp target) with a Holset VNT with knackered actuator he picked up for £120.

B204L 9000 900 next gen, 1994 onwards, plus the 9-3 upto 2000 B204R in 1999 9-3 i think the B234 with its longer stroke 90mm will be too tall

it sounds like the perfect doner, so whats the catch? im assuming there must be a catch or wouldnt more people already have gone down that route? is it just a straight swap??

No. It's a Johansson (bonker's Swede who does 800bhp Saabs) built/tuned B207R engine in a Swedish Speedster.
