Just out of interest nev, what speeds is it when you get vibration?

About 95 leptons. It started after a pothole crash which bent a wheel. I had the wheel replaced, but the vibration is still mildly present. Hopefully Jimmys hit list will sort it, if not it might be a bad bearing pack, CV joint(s) or worst of all the gearbox might need taking off to inspect the diff + cone bearings.

It's not a particularly strong vibration, in fact on a bumpyish road I don't even notice it. However, it does bug me and make me hold back.

Steering arms supposedly bend easily. Haven't seen it myself but that's what the blurb on elise parts says.

Gawd, just went for a good blast and saw 35 PSI of boost on the gauge at one point. Jesus wept. :o

Can you extrapolate your estimated power based on previous dyno plots at 35psi

I'm sure Jimmy will give the front end a look over while doing the work. I shudder at some of the pot holes around my area, some of the A14 has what I can only describe as speed bumps on it now where the road has a join and it's pushed upwards.

35 psi  :tt: that sounds erm interesting!

Jimmy managed to finish the job yesterday in super quick time (thankyou Jimmy), so I went round and picked Nipper up from the green hills of Cwymbran.

Nipper has: 1/ Brand new steering rack 2.36 lock to lock, integral rack riser plates

2/ New UJs on the steering column 3/ Front HCBs swapped. 4/ Caster reset. 5/ Bushes checked. 6/ Front anti roll bar. 7/ Front wheels geoed back in.

Cornering and steering accuracy has considerably improved as expected and I really like the quicker turn in of the rack. Unfortunately the vibration still exists, so I am going to chase down some other canididates that might be causing this, namely p*ss poor wheel balancing (even though I have had this checked) or possible dodgy hub bearing(s).

Some people have found micro balancing or precision balancing is required as their local places do a rough balancing job.  Might be worth exploring.

I took my fronts to 3 different places after apparently being balanced, each subsequent company said the wheel was out of balance. How hard can it be!!!!

I'm beginning to think this will need to be my next step. There are a couple of specialists in Bristol that do it I think.

The car corners so hard now it's really fab.

That's three people now saying how much of a difference the uprated ARB makes. Looks like it's going on my shopping list.

It's expensive, but worth it really. Jimmy set mine to 4 out of 5 for stiffness and that seems fine for fast road action to me.

It's a damn shame it raining tonight, I really wanted to take it for a blast.

Managed to get out for a lovely A & B-road blast this evening and enjoy the tighter front end; it's certainly more confidence inspiring. I will attempt to ring a few places up for the micro-balancing of the front wheels tomorrow.

Got rung up by Matt Bentley a couple of times the other day for some Z20LEx build advice/options. I usually get a few calls/emails each week from the general public, but this is the first time a pro has rung me up so it was quite pleasing. I only hear very good things about him and wish him the best, our community needs guys like him :)

Pip pip Vx chums.

Any garage can do it, they need to set the machine to "dynamic" which balances either side of the wheel and "fine" which balances down to the 1g Most garages just do static and is set to read zero if within 5g

Sheesh, another attempt at wheel balancing has failed to fix the wheel vibration, so I've just bought 2 new hubs which I will fit.

On a more positive note, the car is now booked into EFI in Runcorn on 4th Oct for:

1. New ECU (Adaptronic 440)

[*]Laptop in car, so I can adjust/load different maps at any time.
[*]In gear boost control, so for example: 8 PSI in 1st,  12 PSI in 2nd, 15 PSI in 3rd etc etc (all changeable with the laptop).
[*]Eliminate the MAF, bigger injectors, 3.0 Bar FPR.
[*]Full control over all tables + cells etc.
[*]Tweakable by myself on a RR or on the road if I desire.
[*]Retain FBW throttle body and OEM pedal assembly.
2. New map

[*]1 core map, mainly done in the dyno, mapped to quite high output, which I can then re-program back down easily.
[*]Switch mounted on dash to drive at minimum boost (i.e. waste-gate spring pressure).
3. Traction control.

[*]This has a variety of soft and hard cuts, which I can program in myself.
[*]Slip angle potentiometer mounted on dash.
This is the final (expensive) part of the jigsaw that I have frustratingly had no control over up to this point. But after having driven a super smooth 360 BHP VXT that Chris had already mapped I am happy that it will be value for money. Also I have spent some time talking to Chris + Duncan and 2 others who have had their cars mapped by him, and I get good vibes :)

:yeahthat:

I'll be interested to see what you think of the ECU.  I remember a lot of aftermarket ECU's having weak timing.  You could set a figure but it would still float around a fair bit.  Only Motec and DTA had tight timing.  I'll be interested to see what the new ECU's are like as this was quite some time ago!

Just out of interest.

How did you determine how "tight" the effective timing actually was compared to the map values?
