It appears the oil filter I have did not come with a seal, so would anybody be able to supply me with the sizes for one for the NA? My NA seems to have developed a slight leak. I need ID, OD and width thumbsup

don't make the mistake i made and use a rubber seal, as the pressure forced the seal to pop out. go to vauxhall and get the proper replacement as they are only £2.53 each p/n is 9198195 and it is called a seal ring. you will need to order 2.

roughly the inner diameter is 7.5cm and od is 8.5cm

The seal ring fits between the spool piece that is used for the oil cooler take off. The rubber o-ring gasket is used for the cap part :) My cap wouldn't come off, so ended up replacing the two oil seals instead

Just done the same with mine....

Having had a lingering oil leak issue / saga, I have tried to undo the cap from the housing and no matter what I cannot get the bugger to undo. I have however just bought the oil cooler o-rings from AutoVaux coated them in oil and then very carefully located the housing and cap back into the gap underneath the inlet manifold and carefully screwed it finger tight and then tightened up with 1/2" square drive.

I topped the oil up and ran the engine for ten minutes to get it hot constantly checking for a smearing of leaking oil on a piece of kitchen towel. It looks like it may have finally done the trick (it is the second set of o-rings I have used - was a bit gung-ho the first time) and then I took the oily undertray off stuck it in the garage and went for a 10mile run and parked up. There is no re-appearence of fresh oil on the front engine mount so hopefully all is now well.

I have now given the undertray a thorough clean and degreasing and will fit it back on and go out for half an hour or so run and then whip the undertray off to see if there is anymore oil spatter.

The part numbers for the o-rings are:

9198195 (cost £2.05 each + VAT from AutoVaux) so if you can get them from either Evans Halshaw or Bristol Street Motors (I am presuming you are near to Newcastle/Gateshead) for a few pennies more it will be worth it just to rule them out.

PS. I would offer to help, if I could this weekend, but unfortunately I am knee-deep in a project at work and have to submit my second assignment for my PGDip in PCET on monday and I have only managed 600 (complete nonesense) out of the 3000 word limit. I do this every time.... silly boy!

I too know how much of an arse these can be - they cause my leak down at North Weald last time (thankfully lost only 1/2 litre of oil).

Found when mine leaked, it sprayed onto the back of the block and pooled a bit on the ally mount. Even after cleaning it off well still get drips, same in my garage. I too was going to spend Saturday going round cleaning the undertrays and also anything I could get to in the engine bay - but work has smashed that idea to pieces.

No.5 here

I had this bother too. The rings get caught in the threads when you are putting the housing back together and get fecked. Like Mangham said. Get new ones, hold them steady and get it finger/hand tight before throwing tools at it.

I had a bunch made up too as they were back order when i needed them. Lost when i moved house though,

Thank the likes of FLD, Techieboy and MandarinVX amongst others for their suggestions and tips! I just simply followed their instructions and I am hoping that in the end it is a long and tiring chapter of my ownership dealt with (oh and the repeated questioning on here - I am sorry, but very grateful) :grouphug:

 Just6 seen your actual question hasn't been answered :D I'd go down Halfrauds and get a cheap filter - I think all the aftermarket filters come with the o-ring as standard :)

don't use the halfords oil filter as it is bad quality and the one i got did not come with an oil seal. i went to my local auto factors and got one made by MANN (HU69/2X) (comes with an oil seal) and it is a completely different design to the halfords one which looked like it was going to fall apart and deposit bits of glue in to the system
