Right well it looks like ive made a right hash of my headlights, i originally took one out to change the bulb - no problem at all, i had a check around the seal and all was good, no gaps etc. I then took the other headlight out and noticed the whole bottom half of the lens coming away, enough so that i could lift it up and slide a £1 inbetween the gap! Seeing as i have a week off work i thought i would remove the lens on both lights, paint the insides black (i have a NA) and reseal using some decent stuff, first of all this is not an easy job, its a real PITA and i wish i had just resealed the bloody thing and not bothered I went to halfords and chose some clear silicone sealant which the packet stated "perfect for sealing light clusters" withstands extremes of temps etc. So i used this gear and left the lights indoors for 2 whole days with lots of clamps holding down the lens to apply pressure, fitted the lights and now 2 days after being on the car the whole bloody lens is coming away! there is a massive pool of water inside the light and i need the car for tomorrow so im in desperate need of some decent sealant - the car lives outside and for the time being i have taped alongside the light just to stop any more water getting in Ive heard that Tiger Seal is the gear to get however i can't find this in any shops, only seems to be online Can anyone reccomend a sealant fit for the job of sealing the lights? There is a B&Q and Halfords near me so a sealant which they stock - ive had a look and they have Loctite Superflex Sealant, is this any good? Sorry for the long winded post just to ask for a decent sealant

Euro Car Parts does it (or a similar version) if you've got a branch close to you. Noticed it in my local'ish one a few weeks back.

No joy im afraid, just gave my local branch a call and they have never heard of the stuff

How about this Loctite superflex sealant - its used to seal windscreens in so must be fairly hard wearing?

Yeah i was looking at the stuff they do in Halfords, comes in a tube and therefore wouldn't require a gun to apply it

I have found SikaFlex EBT on the B&Q website, ive googled it and there are other various car forums saying they used that for resealing lights but it requires a gun

Which do i go for?

Guns are cheap and do other stuff so that is not an issue. Loctite works fine though so if you can get it easily then job done.

Just checked the garage and we have a gun, i just want to make sure i get the right stuff as these lights are a real pain in the arse and i dont want to be doing this all over again

Can you remember the type of stuff you used, was it Loctite superflex?

Do i go for Loctite superflex or Sikaflex, all these flex's are getting me confused :tumble:

The loctite superflex (5940) stuff in a tube from Halfords should be fine. I used it to add a bead along my windscreen rubber seal. Headlights are on the list to get sorted when I get round to it. Q: Is Tigerseal/Sikaflex silicone sealant by a different name or special in some way?

Tigerseal/Sikaflex are not silicone sealents. They are based on PU as opposed to silicon
Tigereal/Sikaflex-
  • One component ready for use polyurethane sealant and adhesive.
  • Will permanently seal and bond body panels and trim.
  • Can be used to seal around windows, doors and lights etc.
  • Once cured it can be over painted with most paint systems.

Leave silicon sealents for going around baths/showers/sinks!

thumbsup So Tigerseal/Sikaflex is a sealing adhesive, but silicon stuff is just a sealant.

This bloody Sikaflex and tigerseal is a nightmare to get hold of, i need this stuff quickly and therefore didn't want to buy it on ebay and wait for it to arrive I have however found some Purflex at a local car parts shop, its a polyurethane sealant so im guessing its pretty much the same stuff, ive googled it and it looks like it will do Anyone used it before and will it do a good job in sealing my headlights?
