After 2 weeks and 6 days at the local garage, they've told me I need a new ECU. Symptoms were a misfire and OBD code showing problem with injector 3. First of all they switched the injectors around and that didn't solve it. (showed problem with same injector) Then it went to the auto electricians who have said it's not the wiring to the injector but it's the ECU - no signal from negative pin if that means anything to anyone) The sparky has told them it's quite common on the z22se - I've not seen anyone on here with it in the last 2 years...... My options appear to be: - new ECU £££ - secondhand one (anyone have one going spare?) - I've been told theres someone on the internet who does ECU repairs? Does anyone have any experience of this? I have the exact same problem with mine, it's currently at Sinclaires Motorsport. They have actually eliminated (apparently) the possibility of it being an ECU fault and have recently established that their was no fuelling on the first cylinder. They are awaiting delivery of a new set of injectors in the morning and they are confident that they will solve the problem. I tried everything before it went to the garage, Plugs, Coil Pack, EGR, ECU Reset, nothing made any difference. I'll let you know how they get on tomorrow.

Didn't P4cks send something away for repair, though it came back unfixed the first time round. But that could have been the Airbag squib. I remember him mentioning it at the last North East Meet. Might be worth a PM to resurrect him from his "I don't own a VX anymore slumber"

I know pack had some kind of airbag issue snd was selling something recently. As for the ecu, I have no idea how practical this is, but I'm local and your welcome to try mine so long as its not likely to cause any issues. That is probably a stupid idea but you never know. Edit - I'm due a service, could take it where yours is for the garage to try?

During my fault finding palaver I was going to get a spare ECU but there was mass confusion over whether they could just be swapped and the verdict was that they are coded and not 'swappable'. I am 100% gullible when it comes to cars and garages so take this with a pinch of salt!

Secondhand ECU's are fine (as long as they're working) but you'll also need the matching immobiliser and the transponder chips for your keys, otherwise it will need Vauxhall's interference help.

For the z22se, the ECU is paired with the immobiliser. If you want to use the ECU on a different car, the ECU needs to be unlocked from the immobiliser. It needs to be done when the ECU is still connected to the original immobiliser. With the Tech2 there is standard option to unlink it, and then you're free to link the ECU to a different immobiliser in a different car. Mark

Thanks for the replies chaps. So Mark, if the replacement ECU is unlocked from the other car with tech2, does it still need the transponder and immobiliser chips, or will it be effectively "blank" and able to pair with mine? Fab, may well take you up on that offer - will send PM Rich

If it is unlocked you put it in your car and pair it with your immobiliser. The keys are locked to you immobiliser, so there is no link there with the ECU.

Just an update, mine is back and running better than ever after replacing all of the injectors. I know your sure this is an ECU fault but so was everyone who saw mine and the fault codes and symptoms were identical. I now have 3 healthy spare injectors if you want to try replacing yours? Good luck

I bloody hope it's the ECU not the injectors, it's causing me enough hassle I've already bought fab's and am awaiting removal..... Still slightly confused over this whole business. So if the new ecu is uncoded by tech2 whilst on the old car, I can get it flashed by vauxhall to match my immobiliser. Job done - I can use my keys (which obviously go with my immobiliser) without a problem? The alternative is - new ecu, along with the chip from the key and the immobiliser control unit ring which sits around the ignition. If these are all paired together on the old car, then I can simply transfer them across to mine. I guess then that the deciding factors are- How much will it cost for someone to code an uncoded ecu to my car Has fab realised that along with his ecu and key chip, I will need the transponder ring from his ignition (which functions as the immobiliser control unit) !!! Anyone know how much a recoding would cost? I think I have my car pass with security code....

One of the dutch forum members bought an opcom which seems to have given him much of what a tech2 can do. (he removed some old keys, and added a new one i believe) http://www.dealextre...ls.dx/sku.33585 He says it quite wizzard driven, and that it could do ecu pairing, when you have the passcode Let me doublecheck with him.

Just an update - 5 weeks and 4 days down the line and my car's still in the bloody garage. Received fab's ecu - top stuff fab, thanks. Phoned the garage on friday to arrange to pick it up and apparently it's running but the electrician says I should replace the coil pack as it was likely a spike from that that fried the ecu. (sounds dodgy to me) Fine, I'll order a coil pack. Went to get the car (45 min trip on the bus) and the garage take me to the electrician and he's fcuked off home at 3pm for the weekend!! So, no car for the weekend and expensive last minute train ticket to peterborough. (was planning on taking the car for a stag weekend) Today my coil pack turns up (good old autovaux) so I take the full day off to await the package and then get it to the garage and get my car. No such luck, electrician wont let me take it until the coil pack is on. I explain it's a 5 minute job and I can do it. Then he says, oh there's other stuff to do like put the steering wheel back on, and he's on his own today etc etc so I can't have it today. Still stuff to do??? You've had it for 5 FCUKING WEEKS!!! The garage (a local lotus specialist) sent off my old ecu to be repaired, who had it for two weeks. It was only when I rocked up with fab's ecu that they phoned the ecu repairers to be told they couldn't get past the security so have done nothing with it. To top it all, even if I ever get my car back, I still need to sort the hole in the clam made by the AA. :angry2: Sorry rant
