The german mould sale also included the cat drawings of the hinges.

That french version however has some pretty flimsy versions of his own by the looks of it.

Did some investigation and this French guy apparently made his own coupe version, heavily based on the German shape. He mailed me some detail pics of the molding proces and they're quite interesting for possible other versions. thumbsup

Looks a similar solution to mine. Nothing complicated, a laser cut stainless steel U shaped hinge, bolted and bonded onto the roll bar cover with a pair of right angle brackets.

Looks quite a easy fixing solution, just not sure about the right angled edges, I prefer the rounded ones on the German coupe.

German one looks real good, but how about heat getting out of the car now the lid is closed?

I must say the German one looks a poper solution, whereas the french one just seems to be yet another version that works when closed but horrid when open. Plus the German one must put far less load on the rollbar cover with the buttress extensions not being part of the 'lid'.

Actually the shaping and making of this looks not that difficult. Only to get it really looking right is an art and it's all in the details..

To me the rears should curve a little more inwards and the rear flat is a bit too thick and should be level with the clam rear like the normal bootlid.

I agree.  The French one doesn't follow the outer curve of the buttress.  The hinges are what weigh on my mind the most.  Both of these bolt in with the roll bar cover bolts but I'm concerned that the bulkhead material is quite soft and the hinges have quite some leverage against it.  Its this reason I went the Darcini method with mine but I'm still not entirely sure about that either which is why it still isn't fitted!  I think the ultimate method has to be similar to gingerjons with use of the exige hinges.  I've started moulding a new roll bar cover with bosses moulded in for the hinges.  In my head this has to be done right.

It's a pity

So much work involved with this copy and not being able to copy right.

Even the distance beetween each "flap" looks weird ....

But to be honest this looks more decent than some other mad creations I've seen passing by...

The use of rose joint on the french copy  is clever , you have less alignment troubles

It's nice to see other peoples solutions to this!

I'm happy with mine in theory but my my lack of skills in the GRP area have let me down on the finish. Matt has answered plenty of questions to help get where i am now. I need to trim the edges where the rear meets the new Roll Bar i made and also need some angle Alu block to keep the brackets attatched in the right way.

Not done a lot on mine since i got it to the "it fits and works...sort of" point.  With Matt using the same hinges and having infinately more experience i am hoping it will come together eventually! Moving house this week....will finally have a garage!!! So Makes GRP work a little eeasier as i can do it in the evening rather than only at the weekends

Or i'll just buy one from Matt! :ninja:
