i had loads of little scratches all over the car.. so after washing it today, i thought id stick some T-cut on the scratches and buff them all out. - it got too late, and didnt have time to stick any wax on it after i had finished. S0o0o, my question is... how important is it to wax the car after you T-cut.. and if its very, as i imagine it is, how much permanent damage will it cause if i wash and wax it in a few days?

if you dont wax it asap, you will be back to square 1 as the dirt will stick to it like a sh** to blanket!! thumbsdown edit: dont worry about the sun. Imagine all the people who wash their car with fairy - it strips the wax off immediately

T cut does it exactly what it says on the tin lol, cuts back the lacquer, polish will bring back the shine and fill minor swirls, the wax will then protect it :)

Rather than just slag off one product, why not also name the superior products to use?

Sonus SFX-1 Restore Polish has a decent amount of abrasives in it to assist with removing scratches, swirls, sun damage etc - ideally need a machine to assist with polishing. An alternative would be Meguiars #85 Diamond Cut which is also fairly abrasive - ideally need a machine to assist with polishing, if you don't have a machine polisher then Poorboys SSR 2.5 Super Swirl Remover would be a good choice. All of these products are fairly abrasive (T-Cut is typically thought to be the most abrasive, which means it removes lots of lacquer/paint very quickly which makes it extremely dangerous to use in the wrong hands as the last thing you want to do is polish through the laquer as it will expose your paintwork to air and thats when it will oxidise and change colour) and as such you will ideally need to polish with a finer abrasive like Sonus SFX-2 or Meguiars #83 Cleaner/Polish both of which are best with a machine polisher, or Carlack 68 - Polishing Paste if doing it by hand. There are lots of alternatives, some work better by hand as they contain a lot of fillers which work by filling the scratches (as if I needed to state that..) but that means after a few washes the filler gets washed out of the scratches and you need to top up the shine a lot more often than using a polish that works by abrasion rather than filling. Obviously abrasive polishers should not be used to clean your car every week with - as they do remove a tiny portion of the surface of the laquer (or paint if the laquer has been polished off!), so use abrasive polishers when you absolutely must get rid of medium/severe swirls or scratches and a none abrasive polish when you don't - I've found Autoglym Super Resin Polish does an amazing job as a filler for hand application.

Heres a few of the ones i've tried, and had good success with,
Souns paintwork cleaner
Dodo juice lime prime (excellent on non metallic paint)
Meguiars cleaner/polish (83)
Sonus sfx1 restore
Maguiars 86 one cut and polish (good for light cutting and polishing)

These are just a few of what is available, i tend to use Meguiars and sonus and with some excellent advice from nickA :)

tbh, with 'hard' polishes like this, you dont want to be rubbing sandy bleach into the paint (T-Cut )

RobNA did a bit of swirl correction on our MK4 astra with a G220 and two megs cutters... VERY good results.

I use the G220 myself, extremely capable random orbital (dual action) polisher. For anyone doing their research prior to purchasing a mechanical polisher, you'll probably stumble upon articles saying how dangerous none random orbital polishers are because of 'paint burn' - bear in mind our VX's are fibre glass so they don't produce anywhere near the kind of heat that metal chassis vehicles do when being polished so it isn't as likely to suffer paint burn (however orbital sanders DO remove more paint in less time so are generally used by more experienced paint detailers)
