Now, I'm feeling happier about the car, there's a whole list of bits and pieces I need to sort out once and for all. Having toasted an engine at Silverstone due to oil starvation, I've become paranoid about oil pressure and temps (and yes, I know, neither of these gauges would have helped there). I've had these gauges rattling around for a while and put the sensor wiring in during the engine rebuild.

The gauges from Elise Shop have a user settable warning light and also a audible alarm but the biggest issue for me, has been the location of the gauges. I didn't want to cut them into the dash cover as I don't really like the look of them there (and don't want to be driving around gauge watching). I'd initially trial mounted them in one of the vertical gauge pods that go between the centre tunnel and the underside of the dash. Looked very neat but two drawbacks, they were quite hard to see down there as you had to properly look at them and more importantly, I kept knocking the pod over when resting my clutch leg. Sure once screwed into place it probably wouldn't have happened but was clearly in the way.

Then browsing through the Elise Parts website I stumbled across another pod that I think they used to sell for the S1 but hasn't been around for a while. So I thought feck it, let's get one and give it a try. It's a really neat bit of kit that clips into the recess for the interior light and then relocates that light to the underside of the new gauge pod. It comes in left-hand and right-hand drive versions. In the case of the RHD version, the gauges are offset to the left to aid visibility. I've just fitted it and it works a treat. Needs a little bit of panel edging to neaten up the fit but perfect otherwise. Not particularly cheap but short of a new aftermarket electronic dash, it was the neatest solution for me. YMMV.

Now, I've just got to reroute the loom for gauges again. :beat:

Real neat solution. Got a part number for the pod and the pricing?

Gauges here. If anyone is thinking of getting a pressure gauge for an NA, make sure you get one that will go up to 150psi as we run silly high pressures.

Can't remember who did the carbon dashplates as it was 3+ years ago. It wasn't TMS like the door bits and the centre console as they hadn't got any left. Probably the guy who's workshop burned down, if he was the one that did the first group-buy.

No, don't like them being so obvious/distracting and they never seem to point in quite the right direction. Also don't fancy risking it with the alcantara dash.

I mounted my guages in much the same place. Used a cheapy 3 guage pod that mounts with 4 small screws, had to drill 4 small holes in the underside of the dash but it works well. In hindsight I would have mounted it slightly further to the left as 1 guage is partially obscured by the steering wheel and have to move head to see it. Unfortunately I haven't fitted an oil pressure gauge yet so I've just got a Volt meter in the 3rd pod for now.

That looks sweet! I was going to put mine in the dash but now I'm thinking about getting one of those pods :) where do you route the wires from the engine bay so you don't see them?

Under the dash towards the front. Then down at the front of where your feet are then through the centre bit past the handbrake to beahind the parcel shelf. Theres a rubber gromet in the corner behind the drivers seat into the engine bay

Thanks mate, so I take it you have to take the drivers seat out and the parcel shelf aswell? Does the passenger seat have to come out aswell?

I used the central route initially but it looked a bit messy. Luckily, I also ran a length of 9 core cable down each sill from the engine bay and then up into the dash void when I fitted the charge cooler for just such eventualities. It just pops out behind and below the stereo, so perfect for the gauges in that position or when I originally thought they might have to go in the dash.
